Vocabulary:

The expansion and deepening of the lexical-


thematic fields laid down in the vocabulary
program for the practical Portuguese language
course in 1 course continues, further developing
the theoretical-practical questions laid out in the
3rd semester: study of the meaning of the word,
word families, word formation: matrix principle
and mechanisms; synonyms, antonyms,
homophones, homographs, homonyms, paronyms;
stylistic features of spoken and written speech;
sociolinguistic register of the language;
phraseological units, idiomatic expressions,
proverbs, preparatory lexical exercises for written
compositions.

2 Grammar:
The material covered in the grammar syllabus in
Year 1 is extended and deepened by considering
more specific functions and uses. The questions
about the structure of the language, laid down in
the program for the 2nd year, 3rd semester, are
further developed in order to strengthen the
linguistic and productive competence in the field
of: spelling and punctuation; the peculiarities of
noun inflection, of determiners and modifiers in
the noun phrase; the peculiarities of verb
inflection, the specific uses of nominal verb
forms, of verb tenses in indicative and
conjunctive, of their agreement and combination
within the complex sentence and text, of the
means of expressing aspectality, pledge and
appeal; means of achieving coherence in texts
with direct speech, indirect speech and semi-direct
speech; techniques for expanding and
compressing a simple and complex sentence,
transformations.
Translation from/to Portuguese:
The selection of texts is reduced to excerpts from
original works of contemporary Portuguese and
Bulgarian authors without significant lexical
complexity, oriented above all to the already
analyzed grammatical issues and active
vocabulary. Emphasis is placed mainly on
grammatical interpretation and the denotative
(rather than connotative) dimension of the lexical
component, and the problematization of stylistic
differentiation is avoided.
4 Written and oral presentation:
Written presentation develops receptive and
productive competence through means of
expression and structures characteristic of written
speech. By means of various exercises with
applied value (dictation, retelling, essay, essay
according to set parameters, comment, spelling
exercises, essay, etc.), the knowledge and skills in
the field of grammar and vocabulary, as well as
cognitive processes and communication skills
developed through the topics and techniques of
conversation classes.
Knowledge and skills are required to use the
thematic lexical fields developed in the 3rd and
4th semester of the practical Portuguese language
course, word formation: matrix principle and
mechanisms; polysemy of lexeme words,
synonyms, antonyms, homophones, homographs,
homonyms, paronyms; stylistic features of spoken
and written speech; sociolinguistic register of the
language; phraseological units, idiomatic
expressions, proverbs.
Knowledge and skills are required to form the
features of noun inflection, determinants and
modifiers in the noun phrase; the peculiarities of
verb inflection, the specific uses of nominal verb
forms, of verb tenses in indicative and
conjunctive, of their agreement and combination
within the complex sentence and text, of the
means of expressing aspectality, pledge and
appeal; means of achieving coherence in texts
with direct speech, indirect speech and semi-direct
speech; techniques for expanding and
compressing a simple and complex sentence,
transformations.
Translation of text from Portuguese to Bulgarian:
Equivalence and adequacy in the translation,
expediency in the selection of lexical and
morphosyntactic means of expression are required
to show a correct interpretation of the Portuguese
text, its stylistics and terminological focus, as well
as a good linguistic culture in Bulgarian.

4. Translation of a text from Bulgarian to


Portuguese:
Equivalence and adequacy are required in the
translation, maximum expediency in the selection
of the lexical and morphosyntactic means of
expression, which will show a full transmission of
the message and its stylistic color from the
Bulgarian text into the Portuguese language.
Written statement:
Essay: A comprehensive test of knowledge and
skills for the construction of an author's text of a
Portuguese text to demonstrate the ability to
activate the relevant thematic lexical fields and
grammatical constructions acquired in the second
year of Portuguese language studies.
Dictation: A comprehensive test of language
competence in the auditory perception and written
transmission of coordinated Portuguese speech
(receptive and productive), as well as the
knowledge and skills of observing Portuguese
spelling.
6. Conversation:
Verification of communicative competence in the
oral form of speech (receptive and productive).
The conversation may touch on topics covered in
the required reading books, the topic covered in
the essay, and any other contemporary topic
discussed or not discussed in the practicals.
