In 250-300 words, write about the most interesting character in the story/novel/play
you have chosen from the Extensive Reading list of works.

The Director, nameless, is the most interesting character in Brave New

World by Aldous Huxley. He’s the voice in corridors and orders in specific
rooms. Authority is his second name and he’s, indirectly, the twist of reference
in this novel. This leader promotes an utopian society but subversive ideas that
challenge the status quo are dangerous to social stability, so this may convert
his city into a dystopian one.
Hypnosis is his ally, repetition of recorded voices every night seems to
function as a condition to obtain shaped minds and controlled desires in this
Fordist society. The Director feels specially excited about this idea because it
allows those in power to have special control on people’s personalities.
Illogically, he’s the one that can’t control his inner human feelings that he carries
from the past in this inhuman world. Experiences of love and regret, memories
that keeps for himself, repressed him forever.
Unveiling this character, hypocrisy stands out as a white shining light
above his head. The fear of discovery is his worst nightmare and leaves him
vulnerable. The past on person reached him and his accusation of anti—social
behaviour towards a citizen provokes negative connotations on him and his
reputation.
Irony is his big secret and the consequence of his dramatic fall from grace after
a big revelation that he is John’s biological father. He escapes from the morality
of this society and he chooses the wrong ingredient to succeed in his ideal
world on the attempt to create a perfect world without parents.
