Onboarding to a Scrum Way of Working for Non Software Development Teams

Setting the Baseline (All Employees)


1. Read the current Scrum Guide and take the Open Assessment (1 hour)

2. Review the Scrum Cycle (1 hour)

3. Listen to Jeff Sutherland’s Ted Talk (20 min)

4. Read through scrum.org’s What is Scrum documentation and watch associated videos (30 min)

5. Agile Learning Path (12 hours)


a. Focus on the following
i. Into the Agile Mindset (1 day training)
1. This is an in person training available on iLearn
ii. Into the Agile Mindset Videos, part 1 and part 2 (3 hours total, 1.5 hours each)

Solidify the Foundation (Product Owners, Scrum Masters, anyone Interested)


6. Read 2 books on SCRUM (3 hours)
a. SCRUM: How to do Twice the Work in Half the Time
b. The Scrum Fieldbook

7. Agile Learning Path (1 day)


a. Focus on the following
i. Join the Agile Community of Practice
ii. Scrum Master and Product Owner Training from Agile and DevOps team
1. This is an in person training

Courses and Certifications (Product Owners, Scrum Masters, anyone Interested)


8. Scrum Inc and Scrum.org Courses are both driven and guided by the founders of Scrum (2 day training)
a. I personally recommend Scrum Inc to understand how scrum works outside of software
b. Scrum Inc and Scrum.org courses give you access to learn about Scrum directly from the source(s)

9. Scrum.org’s PSM and PPO Certifications (Preparation time is 5 hours, test is 1 hour)
a. These certifications are industry recognized
b. No formal training is required (though recommended and many times needed)
