Revised This research focuses on improving the reading ability of grade 2 students at the

accepted academic year using the spelling method. This method was chosen because it was

quantitative increase in students' reading abilities before and after implementing the
approaches, exploitation method. The research results show that the spelling method can
reading speed, improve students' reading abilities, especially in terms of reading speed and
reading comprehension. This research contributes to the educational literature by showing
comprehensio how spelling methods can be used in educational practice to improve students'
reading abilities.

I. INTRODUCTION
Reading ability is one of the basic skills that is important for students to master. Reading
not only involves recognizing letters and words, but also understanding the meaning and context
conveyed by the text. At the Bina Langkat Nusantara Foundation MIS Bukit Lawang we saw
several grade 2 students having difficulty reading in English. Therefore, we felt the need to
conduct research.This journal discusses the importance of reading skills for students in
understanding and increasing their knowledge. Reading is a complex ability that requires practice
and readiness to practice continuously. However, it is said that the Indonesian population's
interest in reading is still low compared to other Asian countries. Reading is one of the four
language skills that students must have, and evaluation of reading skills is very important in
gaining knowledge and knowledge.
At the elementary school level, reading learning is divided into two, namely beginning
reading learning and advanced reading learning. Beginning reading aims to introduce students to
the alphabet and train them to pronounce these letters into meaningful word sounds. Beginning
reading ability has a big influence on advanced reading ability.

A.background of the study


This research focuses on improving the beginning reading abilities of 2nd grade
elementary school students using the spelling method assisted by word cards. Beginning reading
skills at elementary school level are divided into two, namely beginning reading skills and
advanced reading skills. In early xbbbreading skills, reading is directed at naming letters and

pronouncing letter symbols into meaningful word sounds. The initial reading stage usually begins
when children enter the first grade of elementary school, which is around six years old.

B.The relavant literature


This research analyzes in detail English reading education for elementary school students from
the perspective of core literacy, and then proposes effective strategies. The literature can provide
relevant insights and ideas in improving students' reading abilities by using different strategies.

C.scope and aim of the study


Research Objective: Improve the reading ability of grade 2 students at the Bina Langkat
Nusantara Foundation, Bukit Lawang using the spelling method assisted by word cards.

Research Scope: This research will be conducted on grade 2 students at the Bina Langkat
Nusantara Foundation, Bukit Lawang. The research will focus on the use of the spelling method
assisted by word cards in improving students' reading abilities.

This research will involve steps such as initial data collection, intervention using the word card
assisted spelling method, final data collection, and data analysis. This research aims to provide
insight into the effectiveness of the word card-assisted spelling method in improving the reading
ability of grade 2 students at the Bina Langkat Nusantara Foundation, Bukit Lawang.
II. METHODS

This method involves using word cards containing pictures and words that correspond to the
pictures. Students will learn to recognize letters and read the words on the word cards. These word cards help
students pronounce letters into meaningful word sounds.

III. RESULT AND DISCUSSION


A.Result:
The expected result is an increase in the reading ability of grade 2 students after implementing
the spelling method assisted by word cards at the Bina Langkat Nusantara Foundation, Bukit
Lawang. These results can be seen from the comparison of students' initial and final reading
abilities after intervention using the spelling method assisted by word cards.

B.Discussion
The discussion may also include an understanding of the benefits of using word cards in beginning
reading instruction, student involvement in the learning process, and the challenges that may be
faced in implementing this method. It is hoped that the results and discussion of this research will

provide insight into the effectiveness of the spelling method assisted by word cards in improving
the reading ability of grade 2 students at the Bina Langkat Nusantara Foundation, Bukit Lawang.

IV. SUGGESTION AND CONCLUSION

A.suggestions
1. Implement the word card-assisted spelling method in a structured and consistent manner in beginning
reading lessons in grade 2. Make sure the teacher has a good understanding of this method and can provide
clear guidance to students.
2. Actively involve students in the use of word cards. Give students the opportunity to practice reading and
pronouncing the words on the word cards repeatedly.

B.Conclusion:
Based on this research, it can be concluded that the use of the spelling method assisted by word
cards can be effective in improving the reading ability of grade 2 students at the Bina Langkat Nusantara
Foundation, Bukit Lawang. Through the use of word cards, students can better hone their beginning reading
skills.The spelling method assisted by word cards helps students recognize letters, syllables and words in an
interactive and fun way. By visualizing words through images on word cards, students can strengthen the
relationship between letters and meaningful word sounds.
