The Business Finance Guide Under David’s leadership the Corporate Finance Faculty has
become established as “the voice of corporate finance”. Membership
of the faculty has expanded significantly and is now drawn from the
major professional services groups, private equity, venture capital,
specialist advisory firms, banks, financial institutions, companies,
law firms, brokers, consultants, policymakers and academic experts.
More than 50% of the faculty’s membership now comes from beyond
ICAEW.
David has also played a leading role in many public-policy initiatives
focused on the economy and economic growth and in particular
increasing the variety and supply of funding available for growing
businesses. These have included the Breedon Report, which led
to the creation of the British Business Bank. He also convened a
taskforce of the UK’s leading business organisations to produce,
together with the British Business Bank, the highly acclaimed
Business Finance Guide, which has been distributed in hard copy or
via digital, interactive format to more than one million businesses and
advisers. He also led a high-profile initiative with HM Cabinet Office
on Cyber Security in Corporate Finance and in 2017 led ICAEW’s
contribution to the Patient Capital Review and to HM Government’s
development of the UK’s Industrial Strategy.
More recently, David has been actively involved in government policy
seeking to improve the competitiveness of the UK's capital markets
and played a key role in the development of the National Security
and Investment Act 2021. He currently serves on the Business
Finance Council, an expert body co-chaired by the Secretary of State
at the Dept. of Business and Trade and the Economic Secretary to
the Treasury.
