OPERA is a play where the characters sing their scripts instead of talking- on stage.

Romantic era, Opera became popular because of the expressive characteristics of its elements. The
unique features of costumes and background of the scenery, the majestic malodic harmony, and the
emphasis on nature, fantasy, and dreams became even more brilliant through times.

ROMANTIC ERA is an era of transition, where the elements of arts and music began
to emerge. Opera as the main expressive form of arts during this period had given more
value and significance to the performance of different artists such as painters, writers,
poets, singers, and actors on stage.

THEATRICAL ELEMENTS (sounds, music, gestures, movements, lighting, make-up,


and costumes, etc.), had also given opera its life on stage.These are the elements that
add beauty to the setting and scripts of a play and perfection to the actors or actresses’
performance on stage and had given the audience the reason to feel like their part of
the story.

1. How important are the costume to make the story more appealing?
2. How do the actors use their voice, gestures, bodily movement, facial expressions to
achieve positive effect on their performance ?
3. Do the actors introduce their characters more through their voices? Or through
movements? Or facial expression?
