JOB FAIR

The Public Employment Service Office (PESO) in cooperation with the Local Youth Development Council
(LYDC), organized a Job Fair on September 28-29, 2022 at the Balingasag Sports Zone. The said activity
aimed to help fellow locals in seeking job opportunities.

A job fair (also known as a career expo) is a recruiting event in which employers and recruiters meet with
potential employees and where job seekers find more about job openings at potential employers. During
the Job Fair, applicants select vacancies suited to their qualifications and employers could interview and
hire on the spot qualified workers.

A number of large companies participated during the two-day expo. Companies such as Minergy Power
Corporation, Asia Brewery Inc., Pryce Gases Inc., and Gaisano City Mall had some job seekers hired on
the spot. They were only required to bring their Transcript of Records (if College graduate), Form 138 (if
High School graduate), Resume, and Application Letter. Approximately 150 vacant positions were posted
during the job fair. Many locals were grateful for the initiated program since it gave them a chance to
apply without having to spend much.

COVID-19 has had a significant impact on employment in the region. A majority of employees reported
their job was suspended, hours and pay reduced, or they were retrenched. Surveys even show a total of
6 out 10 families lost their income.
