 A Line of Government Moves to Boost SMI Competitiveness

The government continues to increase the productivity and competitiveness of small and medium
industries (IKM) so that they can make a bigger contribution to the national economy. Throughout 2022,
the number of IKM will reach 4.4 million business units or the majority (99.7%) of the total industrial
business units in Indonesia.

So far, the IKM sector has played a very important role in efforts to absorb labor and equalize welfare.
Therefore, through various strategic programs that we have, we are trying to further boost the
competitiveness of SMEs in all lines, from upstream to downstream," said the Director General of Small,
Medium and Multifarious Industries (IKMA) of the Ministry of Industry, Reni Yanita in South
Jakarta , Friday (06/01/2023).

The Director General of IKMA said that the IKM sector has absorbed a workforce of up to 12.39 million
people or 66.25% of the total workforce in the industrial sector. "The SME sector has also contributed
21.37% of the total output value of the processing industry," he said.

Indonesia International Furniture Expo (IFEX), Jogja International Furniture & Craft Fair
Indonesia (JIFFINA), Adiwastra, Inacraft, Jakarta dan Surabaya International Jewellery Fair, Peringatan
Hari Batik Nasional di FX Sudirman,Gebyar IKMA di Mal Kota Kasablanka Jakarta Selatan. Hampir di
setiap eksibisi tersebut, produk IKM selalu menjadi perhatian dan mengundang antusiasme pengunjung.

As many as 99 SMI players have received a machine or equipment restructuring program in 2022.
"Based on the results of monitoring and evaluation, this restructuring program shows an increase in the
production capacity of IKM by 103% so that their business performance can increase," said Reni.

In an effort to improve product quality and expertise of IKM actors, the Directorate General of IKMA has
facilitated packaging and branding designs for IKM to 189 IKM, an increase compared to 2021 which
reached 100 IKM. In addition, the Directorate General of IKMA provided packaging printing assistance to
71 IKMs.
There is also the facilitation of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) certification for 29 food
SMIs, and facilitation of Intellectual Property registration through the Intellectual Property Directorate
General of IKMA Clinic for 497 brands. The Directorate General of IKMA also provided assistance for the
implementation of ISO 9001:2015 quality management to 3 IKMs. Not only that, assistance has also
been carried out, focus group discussions, and socialization for the material center for furniture IKMs in
Jepara and for metal IKMs in Tegal," said Director General RinMeanwhile, until the end of quarter III -
2022, there were 4,202 IKMs that have joined the e-Smart IKM program, and 839 IKMs have successfully
onboarded in the marketplace through this program. As many as 12 of these IKM have also
implemented 4.0 technology on the production line. .

In June 2022, the Directorate General of IKMA collaborated with the Provincial Government of Lampung
to hold the Proudly Made in Indonesia National Movement (Gernas BBI) with the theme “LagawiFest,
Lampung is Proud of Industrial Entrepreneurs”. Of the 30 flagship SMIs LagawiFest, there are two SMIs
LagawiFest successfully selected as Inspiring IKMs in the Proud Made in Indonesia Award 2022 which
will be held in December 2022, namely IKM Littlemonq with products children's toys in the craft
category and IKM Devies Ice Cream with ice cream productsin the culinary category
