ABSTRACT
‘’ This study explored the use of Internet of Things (IoT) in monitoring the temperature and
humidity of a data centre in real-time using a simple monitoring system to determine the
relationship and difference between temperature and humidity with respect to the different
locations of measurements.’’
‘’ In this work, we are implementing smart digital fan module for controlling fan based on room
temperature. And also we can access the temperature remotely through cloud. Temperature of the
room can be sensed by using DHT11 temperature sensor. The sensed signal is send to
microcontroller. If temperature is below the required temperature value then the fan is off and if
the temperature is above the required value then the fan starts running.’’
‘’ The design circuit can be used in many practical applications, where the circuit can be
connected to a device for whose temperature has to be controlled at a particular value. For e.g. a
water tank with heater whose temperature can set to a desired value. In future the designed circuit
can be connected to a GSM Module so that it can be used in industrial areas when a machine
crosses its desired temperature. We can send a message to the control room so that damage of the
machine can be avoided.’’

Chapter 1 INTRODUCTION
Chapter 1: Introduction
Introduction
Indian industries majorly include biomedical, agricultural and pharmaceutical which are the pillars
of country economy. The monitoring of temperature and humidity are major areas for all these
industries. Any kind of unbalancing in the environmental conditions or unset parameters can create
financial loss in the productivity of pharmaceutical and agriculture industries. Monitoring of
temperature and humidity are also required for biomedical industry for drugs and cell culture
methods. In healthcare sectors, environment controlled conditions are also required for patients
threatening.
The main objective of this project is to build IoT based temperature control fan using NodeMCU
ESP8266 Wi-Fi Module and DHT11 Sensor for home automation. This device will be able to
control your AC Home Appliances like AC, Fan, Heater, Cooler, or even light bulb, etc. Suppose
you came from work, enter the room, and feel hot. After a while you want your cooler or fan to be
“ON” automatically, and then “OFF” when the room temperature is back to normal.

Research Objectives
• To develop a model for monitoring temperature and humidity for domestic applications
using DHT11 Sensor and ESP8266 Wi-Fi module.
• To prevent the wastage of energy by automatically switching ON or OFF the fan according
to the monitored temperature and humidity.
2. The ESP8266 Wi-Fi Module is a self contained SOC with integrated TCP/IP protocol
stack that can give any microcontroller access to your Wi-Fi network. The ESP8266 is
capable of either hosting an application or offloading all Wi-Fi networking functions from
another application processor.
3. A 16x2 LCD has been used to show the temperature and humidity value. With SLC
connected to pin D1, SDA with pin D2, Gnd with Gnd and Vcc with Input of ESP8266.

An automatic temperature controlled household electric ceiling fan is designed and developed in
this research. The device uses a temperature sensor; a comparator unit and relay switch to
automatically regulate the speed of the electric ceiling fan, creating breeze to enhance convective
heat transfer. The developed household electric fan automatically changes speed in five different
ascending levels with respect to the calibrated temperature range of the environment. The
operation of this innovative device makes it suitable for users who may not be able to access the
manual electric fan regulator. A sudden change in weather conditions affecting the ambient
temperature might harm a person sleeping under a manually regulated fan. Depending on the
temperature of the environment, the fan automatically regulates its speed, making the device safe
for sleeping, very convenient for patients in the hospital, infants and all users. The aerofoil of the
cross section of the applied blades, the smooth and even three blades, the length and width of the
blades all improved the air velocity distribution of the device. The developed temperature
controlled household ceiling fan achieved improved ventilation of the room up to 20% using
enhanced blades designed with due consideration to fan aerodynamics. The ceiling fan blades spin
with reduced noise and created uniform flow pattern across the room.
There is much future scope for this work. We can implement a speed controller for the fan
according to the temperature which will be helpful for disabled people. We can also implement an
object detective sensor which will stop the fan when no one will be there in the room. We can also
monitor ither parameters like light at the same time and control them. We can draw graphs of
variations of different paramerters using computer. We can implement the control of fan with the
help of mobile also.
