Should college be free?

In today’s world, there is a heated debate around whether college should be free of charge or not.
Some countries offer free education from kindergarten to university, while others require students
to pay at every step of the way. Despite, it is known that there are positive and negative
arguments upon, it is claimed that the benefits it provides remain superior than the drawbacks.

On the one hand, the public scholar system contributes to a well-educated society, with more
inclusive and meritocratic policies. As everyone has the opportunity to pursue higher education,
regardless of their background, the vast majority is able to succeed in their career path. This way,
for instance, governments can encourage citizens to accomplish their personal ambitions and
succeed as professionals in the modern labor world.

On the other hand, opponents of this movement argue that making college tuition-free is prone to
lead foreigners to take advantage of a benefit destined for the national population. It is seen that
no sooner they get their degree; they return to their homeland to live from what they studied in
another country, where they received it for free. For example, Argentina is hailed as one of the
best countries in terms of public educational institutions, and as a result, numerous immigrants go
to study there.

In conclusion, while there are valid concerns about the negative considerations of free college
education, I am inclined to believe that the benefits far outweigh the costs, as it is essential for
professional growth in the workplace as well as societal equity of opportunities.
