A few days ago my family and I visited Mollendo, one of the most famous town in

Arequipa to visit during summer, a small town called Mollendo, the twon of Mollendo
is extremely beautiful, there are many places of interest such as the port of Matarani
and the amazing becahes and landscapes speacially the Castle.
Mollendo is a town bordering the Pacific Ocean in southern Peru. It is located in the
Arequipa Region and is the capital of both the Islay Province and the Mollendo District.
Mollendo was the main port in the Peruvian southern coast until Matarani was
developed about 50 years ago; the port of Mollendo only serves fishermen for the local
economy currently and all the commercial shipping is done through Matarani 12
kilometers north; the old port is in ruins. Mollendo's population more than doubles
during the summer, mostly from people from Arequipa. The railroad used to run a
passenger train daily, but a good highway connects Mollendo to the Panamerican
Highway now and the train now only runs the summer express that goes down from
Arequipa on Saturday and returns on Sunday; the beach is the main attraction, even
though during spring and Winter.
In addition, there are also many important places like, the main square and the
boulevar where during these days a lot of people walk around it, people usually take
potos, visit the nice restaurants and drink a lot of ‘ CREMOLADAS’.
In my opinión Mollendo in one of the most beautiful places to visit during summer
speacially with the family and one of the big attraction is the castle that is in front of
the sea, it has an incredible story that I will tell you in my oral test.
It was built, commissioned by the Arequipa textile businessman of Spanish descent,
José Miguel Forga, between the years 1908 and 1910 with neo-Gothic architecture, with
the Arequipa architect Gerardo Cornejo Iriarte being the author of the project and the
executor of the work. The construction has a reinforced concrete structure with rails in
some parts. An iron bridge installed over the train tracks is the entrance to this castle.
From its concrete balconies with an eclectic style you can see beaches No. 1 and No. 2
of the Arequipa coast.
It was declared a Historical Monument of the Nation
