Prepared by: Camila I. Sarahina

I. Objectives:

At the end of the lesson, the pupils are expected to:

a. identify and explain the principles of design, such as balance, contrast, emphasis,
movement, pattern, rhythm, and unity.
b. apply the principles of design in creating visual compositions using various art materials
and techniques.
c. appreciate the artwork of the pupils and the artwork of their peers based on the principles
of design.

II. Subject Matter

a. Topic: Principles of Design

b. Materials:
 Visual aids (e.g., slides, posters) illustrating each principle of design
 Examples of artworks demonstrating various principles of design
 Art supplies (paper, pencils, markers, colored pencils, etc.)
 Speaker

d. Strategies:

III. Procedure

A. Activity
1. Preliminary Activities
● Prayer
● Greetings
● Classroom Management
● Checking attendance
● Motivational Activity
The teacher will present a music video, “Making Melodies in My Heart” for
the pupils to get energized.

2. Strategy
“Principles of Design Scavenger Hunt”
Divide the students into small groups. Provide each group with a list of items or images
that exemplify different principles of design (e.g., balance, contrast, emphasis,
movement, pattern, rhythm, unity). Instruct the groups to search around the classroom or
school for examples of each principle of design.
Encourage the students to take notes or make sketches of the examples they find.

B. Analysis
After the scavenger hunt, reconvene as a class and have each group share their
findings and explain how each example represents a specific principle of design.
Engage the students in a discussion about each artwork, prompting them to identify and
analyze the principles of design used. Encourage the students to express their opinions
and interpretations of the artworks. And the teacher will ask these questions:
1. What principles of design do you notice in the artwork examples we just
discussed?
2. How do these principles contribute to the overall visual impact of the artworks?
3. Can you identify any specific elements or techniques used to create balance,
contrast, emphasis, movement, pattern, rhythm, or unity in the artworks?

C. Abstraction
Break down each principle of design, discussing its definition and characteristics.
Show visual aids (slides, posters, etc.) illustrating each principle, providing examples
and non-examples. Encourage students to take notes or create visual aids of their own
to help reinforce their understanding.

D. Application
Divide students into small groups or pairs. Provide each group with a blank
sheet of paper and art supplies. Assign each group a specific principle of design to
focus on (e.g., balance, emphasis, proportion). Instruct students to create a simple
artwork that effectively demonstrates the assigned principle of design.
IV. Assessment
As students work on their artwork, circulate the classroom to provide assistance
and assess their understanding. Observe whether students can apply the principles of
design discussed during the lesson. At the end of the activity, have each group present
their artwork and explain how they incorporated the assigned principle of design.
Evaluate each group's artwork based on the effective application of the assigned
principle of design.

V. Assignment
Give the following answers and write it on your assignment notebook.

1. Which principle of design do you find most interesting or appealing? Why?

2. Can you think of any ways to experiment with these principles and create unique
effects or visual experiences in your own artwork?
3. How do you think understanding and applying the principles of design can
enhance your overall artistic skills and creativity?
