Prevention is better than cure,
is a familiar proverb. Our people were
aware of that and by tradition also they
have developed the habit of keeping
their houses clean, but when it comes to
the question of keeping the surroundings
clean, I have no doubt that as a people we
neglect it. It is the duty of the concerned
civic bodies to maintain clean atmosphere
in the areas under their jurisdiction. As
citizens of this great country we too have
a responsibility to help the civic bodies
in maintaining a clean and garbage free
town.
One can recall the pandemic
situation prevailed for over two years
following the outbreak of Covid. This
was the exact result of unhygienic market
place in China. The virus that emerged
here caused lot of loss both in terms of
economy and human lives all over the
world. The entire world was looking
for respite when it was our country that
came forward and supplied Vaccine for
the disease to many foreign countries.
The steps taken by our Government
also ensured pandemic situation eased
out at a faster rate compared to Western
countries. Also the loss of lives in
our country was limited with timely
administering of vaccine and also the
call by our leaders to maintain hygiene
surroundings. Though situation now
has eased in our country many Western
countries still continue to face pandemic
situation as the people there failed to
adhere to hygiene practices says some
experts.

Garbage accumulation has been
a nuisance these days as garbage piling
up at all major town and cities in the
country and solid waste management
has been a big task for the Urban Local
Bodies. The Supreme Court of India has
time and again stated that it is the prime
responsibility of these bodies to provide
conducive atmosphere for the common
man to live with. The response from the
Civic bodies has not been encouraging.
Even the citizens are not pro active in
this regard. They are not joining hands
with the administration in maintaining
their city or town clean. In a bid to
find a solution to the growing garbage
accumulation problems, some Startups
have come up with novel ideas. One such
Startup called Trashcon in Bengaluru
has invented machinery by using which
the garbage issue can well be addressed.
The garbage collected by houses will be
segregated with the help of the machine
which segregates wet and dry waste.
While the wet waste would be converted

into manure, the dry waste such as paper,
boards, glass, plastic and others will
be converted into powdered state. The
powder is used to make ply boards which
can be used to make household articles
such as reading table, flower stand,
coffee stand, pen stand claims Trashcon.
It is high time that we support such
system and bring about a change in our
approach and join hands with civic bodies
in keeping up clean surroundings. It may
be mentioned here that Chikkaballapur
district in our State is placed fourth in
the country with good air quality. This
has been possible because of various
steps taken by the authorities including
planting of trees. Also Mysuru has been
adjudged one among the clean city
ahead of other places in our State. The
incessant rains that occurred have given
scope for planting more trees. We can
look forward for greener surroundings
in the near future and thus can breathe
quality air. Quality air can solve many of
our health issues haunting the mankind.
