Biological evolution
The next important phase belongs to biological evolution. It comprises the
steps from inanimate matter to living biology. The key word here is cells.
A fundamental principal of the creation process, according to the
Qur’ān, is that it occurred in stages. The Qur’ān alludes to the
principle of chemical evolution by citing simple relevant concepts – the

7|THE UNPOPULAR QUR’ĀN – WHY ARE ITS VERSES LARGELY IGNORED? A SCIENTIFIC APPROACH TO THE ARABIC GLORIOUS QUR’ĀN

We have listed some of the important reasons that underlie the grave Conclusion
misunderstanding of the Qur’ān and Islām. Many scientists, especially
westerners, still equate it with eastern philosophy, mystique and as
composed by Muḥammad. They are unaware of its true scientific nature.
We hope to have cleared up any confusion.

T here are many ways to prove the divinity of the Qur’ān. We have
singled out science. The Qur’ān recognises the supreme importance of
science. Accordingly, it has devoted more than 700 of its 6 666 verses to it.
For those who do not see the connection, the Book defines religion as a dīn,
a way of life as prescribed in the Divine Book, and science is an integral
part of life. It is ultimately about trying to understand God’s creative will –
His mind, as some put it. Science is power and knowledge, and it is
everywhere. Computers, cars, calculators, fridges, air-conditioners, smart
phones, airplanes (that take us to Makkah and other holy places) all are the
outcome of the application of scientific knowledge. It gives meaning to our
existence. It is an antidote against fear of the unknown. It frees us from the
shackles of ignorance, superstition and exploitation, and is an indispensable
ingredient for understanding God the creator. There is no religion or true
devotional development without science.
We have explored the cosmos as revealed by the Qur’ān and by modern
science, and demonstrated the harmony between the two. We have also
dealt with the account given of the creation of life, the origin of humankind
and the principles of evolution. The Book is a major revelation, piecing
together the clues of the history and future of the cosmos. How could an
illiterate man living in the 7th century have thought up all these scientific
wonders and predicted them with 100% success rate? Moreover, during its
compilation87, the Qur’ān was not constantly revised or improved. The
