WAREHOUSE

ENGLISH
Warehousing, also known as storage, is the process of storing and safeguarding products, goods,
or materials in a designated space, typically a warehouse or storage facility. The goal of
warehousing is to maintain products in proper storage and preservation conditions until they are
needed for use, sale, or distribution. Warehousing involves the reception, classification,
organization, and storage of products in an efficient and secure manner, ensuring their integrity
and availability when required. This may include the use of inventory systems, quality control, and
logistics to manage and administer the stored products. Warehousing is a fundamental part of the
supply chain and plays a crucial role in inventory management and customer satisfaction.

A strict hygienic and sanitary control. This control is essential not only for the stored goods but
also for the warehouse equipment and materials (pallets, packaging materials) and the personnel
working in it.

A rigorous First Expires, First Out (FEFO) management to distribute products based on their
expiration date, as well as coding that ensures product traceability.

Establishment of a waste management system for proper disposal.

How can a warehouse meet the requirements for proper preservation of perishable products?

By fulfilling the following points:

To ensure strict hygiene and cleanliness control, both the flooring and side wall coverings should
be chosen for easy cleaning.

A strict access control system.

A controlled atmosphere, especially in terms of humidity and temperature. Not all products
require the same conditions. For example, fruits and vegetables may require a cold and slightly
humid warehouse. However, some flowers may require the same humidity level but a lower
temperature. Likewise, there are many perishable products that can only be properly stored in a
dry and warm atmosphere.

Sub-warehouses under special access and atmosphere conditions, etc.

Waiting areas for products that need to be disposed of.

A refrigerated warehouse is a facility dedicated to the storage, supply, preparation, and dispatch
of products at low temperatures. This type of facility consists of storage systems, handling
equipment, and other elements that are part of its operation, such as conveyors, cleanrooms, SAS
doors (Security Airlock System), etc.

Refrigerated warehouses can be classified based on their storage systems (automatic or manual)
or their structure (self-supporting or non-self-supporting). However, the most common
classification depends on the temperature regulation in the facility, distinguishing between:
Refrigeration: warehouses with a controlled temperature between 0 and 10 °C. They are used in
the food industry (dairy products, deli meats, among others), the pharmaceutical industry, or the
clinical sector.

Freezing: cold storage rooms with a controlled temperature ranging from -30 °C to 0 °C. They are
particularly common in the frozen food industry.

It is important to note that this constant temperature control, not only during storage but also
during receipt, preparation, and order dispatch, leads to a significant increase in the energy
consumption of the facility, which increases the logistical costs for each product.

In summary, different types of warehouse distribution include transit warehouses, distribution

warehouses, production warehouses, picking warehouses, and consolidation warehouses.
Warehouse shelving and storage systems can be static, mobile, for pallets, multi-level, among
others. Optimizing the flow of goods in logistics leads to increased productivity, more efficient
inventory management, waste reduction, and a better customer experience. Lastly, the
distribution of cold and hot zones in stores allows for optimizing the customer's journey and
maximizing the visibility of high-demand products.
