4. a) We can move our arm in the all directions but not our knee because of the type of joints present there.
Our arm is attached to the shoulder with a ball and socket joint which allows free movement. But our knees
have hinge joint which only allows movement in one direction. (1+1 = 2)
b) The rib cage is composed of 24 bones or 12 pairs of ribs. The last two pairs of ribs are called the floating
ribs. (1+1 = 2)
c) The synovial fluid reduces friction between bones in the joints. It has a lubricating effect. 1
5. a) If the camels would have short legs they would not be able to protect themselves from the hot sand in the
desert region.
b) If the vertebral column would have no joints then we would not be able to bend or twist our back.
c) Insectivorous plants they grow in soil deficiency of nitrogen. To compensate the deficiency they trap
insects and derive nitrogen from their body.
d) If X-rays could pass through bones then no image would have been created making it difficult to study
about bones.
e) If living beings will not reproduce then all the species will get extinct after a certain period of time.
