1. No, China is not justified in committing in its acts in adherence to its nine dash line
2. Under UNCLOS United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea about exclusive economic zones and
territorial seas, a coastal state has sovereign rights that extends up to 200 nautical miles from its baseline.
For the purpose of exploring , exploiting, conserving and and managing natural resources, whether living
or non-living, of the seabed and subsoil and the superjacent waters.
3. In the case at bar, China violated the Philippines sovereign rights, by temporarily prohibiting fishing in
areas of the West Philippine Sea falling within the Philippines’ EEZ, failing to prevent Chinese vessels from
fishing in the Philippines’ EEZ at Mischief Reef and Second Thomas Shoal and preventing Filipino
fishermen from engaging in traditional fishing at Scarborough Shoal.
4. Therefore, China is not justified in committing the acts in adherence to its nine dash line.
