Climate Change

Climate change is a long-term shift in the average weather patterns across the earth. It
impacts hugely in our lives. Global warming affects ecosystems, agriculture and human health.
Furthermore, it melts ice caps faster and as a result, it can cause flooding, drought and other
natural disasters. Thus, climate change awareness is vital for us.
Climate change is primarily caused by human activities that release greenhouse gases
into the atmosphere. The main reasons include, emission of carbon dioxide caused by the
combustion of coal, oil and natural gases for energy and transportation, deforestation, industrial
processes, and an increase of land uses, etc. these actions are heavily influenced by energy
needs, economic growth, urbanization, short-term thinking and lack of awareness.
In recent years, India has experienced the increase in the frequency and intensity of
heatwaves. During summer months, heatwaves have become more frequent and serve in many
regions across the country. High temperature with humidity can cause risks to human health,
especially elderly, children and outdoor workers. Heatwaves also lead to cause crop failures,
lack of water supply and higher demands on electricity for cooling systems.
However, we can prevent the impacts of climate change by putting efforts together in
individual, community, national and global levels. Some strategies are, we can transfer energy
sources to solar, wind and hydroelectric power stations. We can also choose to use more public
transportation, walking, cycling, and using electric vehicles to reduce carbon emission. We can
protect and restore forests, wetlands and other natural environments. Energy needs in
industries can be reduced by using energy efficient appliances, fuel efficient vehicles, renewable
energy sources and by recycling. Governments should invest more in clean and efficient
transportation systems, renewable energy sources, innovation and research in climate change
challenges. We should raise awareness and knowledges about climate change, its impacts and
promote sustainable lifestyles and consumption patterns to the public.
