"Cultivating the Sprout of Self-Concept: A Reflection on the Personal
Development Webinar"

The personal development webinar on enhancing self-concept held on February 3,

2024, was not merely an event but a transformative journey towards self-discovery. As
a second-year Business Administration student, attending this seminar proved to be a
crucial step in understanding the intricacies of self-concept and its profound impact on
personal and professional growth.

The first part of the webinar, spearheaded by Ms. Christian Laine Aquino, delved into
the fundamental concept of self-concept. The statement "I Am Ok, You Are Ok" served
as a mantra that echoed throughout the session. It resonated with the idea that changing
one's self-concept could lead to transformative results. By addressing the pivotal
question, "Who Am I?" and recognizing the three dimensions of self-concept - self-
image, self-confidence, and self-esteem - participants were encouraged to introspect and
identify their personal narratives.

Personally, I found solace in defining myself as the first millionaire in my family,

capable, and a dreamer. It allowed me to acknowledge my worth and aspirations,
emphasizing the importance of cultivating a positive self-image. Understanding the
indicators of low self-confidence and the significance of a healthy self-esteem
broadened my perspective on the impact of self-concept on daily interactions and
personal well-being.

The second part, led by Ms. Dianne Capati, focused on "Encountering the Self." The
exploration of self-awareness, intertwined with the three dimensions of self-concept -
personal, social, and self-ideal - highlighted the profound connection between self-
awareness and self-actualization. The clips presented, particularly the contrast between
Enzo the Poser and Nico Jovicic: Stand Strong, emphasized the importance of self-
concept in shaping one's identity and navigating life's challenges.

The third part, facilitated by Ms. Cecilia De Guzman, provided practical strategies for
enhancing positive self-concept. The emphasis on self-success starting with "Know Thy
Self" resonated deeply. St. Augustine's advocacy for self-awareness as a journey
towards possessing a mindset and opening opportunities echoed the sentiment that
understanding oneself is a prerequisite for growth.

The speaker's insightful points, such as acknowledging achievements, avoiding
perfectionistic standards, and cultivating a good sense of humor, added depth to the
discussion. Ms. De Guzman's reminder to embrace imperfections and continuously
learn from mistakes struck a chord, reinforcing the idea that personal development is an
ongoing process.

The question and answer portion, with contributions from esteemed professors and
administrators, provided valuable insights. Mr. Jeff Tanganco's advice on building a
network in the Public Relations profession resonated with my aspirations as a business
student. His emphasis on building oneself first, exploring linkages, and learning to deal
with people laid a solid foundation for future success.

Despite battling sleepiness during the webinar, the invaluable lessons gleaned from
the event left an indelible mark. The themes of self-awareness, positive self-concept,
and continuous improvement have become guiding principles on my journey towards
personal and professional fulfillment. I am confident that embracing and living these
concepts will propel me toward success and open doors to numerous opportunities in
my career and life. The seeds of self-discovery planted in this webinar are now
sprouting, promising a future rich with growth and achievement.
