Chapter I
INTRODUCTION

In rural place where rice farming is a foundation of their livelihood, combating

rodents’ infestation is crucial for ensuring crops, integrating practices into rice farming

especially the cultural methods can be a sustainable and effective approach to manage rodent

population. Rice cultivation is a vital component of global food production and rodent are

characterized by continues growing incisors and single pair sharp teeth. In the rice field cause

a significant damage, they feed on rice crop and consuming both growing crops and stored

grains this can lead reduce yield in the rural farmers. and also, rodent may impact the

structural integrity of the cultivation area. The rural farmers need to practice cultural methods

to prevent the introduction of rodents some method control is Crop rotation, this method can

disrupt the reproduction and feeding patterns of rodents. Community Involving plays a

proviral role in cultural practices for rodent’s control. Rural farmers can organize collectively

efforts to implement synchronized farming and harvesting schedule. reducing the availability

of food source of rodents. Sharing information and experience of rural farmers in the

community fosters and collaborative approach to addressing rodents’ infestation. For the

storing grains using traditional method storing of harvested grains can also influence rodents’

prevalence. Using elevated granaries with proper ventilation minimize the accessibility of

rodents to store grains. this method discourages rodents nesting and feeding with storage

areas
Integrated cultural practices in to rice farming offers a holistic and sustainable

approach to combat rodents’ infestation by incorporating method such as practice crop

rotation, engaging community collaboration, and adopting traditional storage technique,

farmers in rural areas can manage rodent population effectively.

OBJECTIVES:

General objective:

To prevent and eradicate the introduction of rodents in the rice

Specific objectives

 To minimize the damage in rice field cause by rodents

 To have community collaboration to the rural farmers

 To gain knowledge of rural farmers

 To have good and proper grain storage

 Practice crop rotation

METHODOLOGY

Phase 1: Phase Providing Request letter

I am writing this letter to send to the brgy. Captain a barangay San Manuel Naguilian

Isabela to encourage to these constituents in my plant to conduct a seminar to the farmers of

the said brgy, which will acquaint them with my shared knowledge of preventing rodent

Infestation.

Phase 2: Assessment

The barangay Captain of San Manuel Naguilian Isabela give a permission to seminar

Involve to conduct. Survey to the farmers of San Manuel to find out their problem about

rodents. This ensures immediate response to the needs about rodents’ infestation.

Phase 3: Knowledge Transfer

Base in the assessment, Extension agent establish seminar that includes:

Presentation

 We will discuss technique and method preventing rodents’ infestation. With slide and

video to enhance their understanding

Presentation

 Demonstrating cultural practices prevent rodents’ infestation. So, the farmers explore

and gain knowledge and experience in cultural practices prevent rodents

Group Discussion

 This shares their own experience in rodents’ prevention

Q and A

 Question and answer to ask questions about to our topic

This seminar will give knowledge to the farmers of cultural practices that they can apply to

their field.

Phase 4: Monitoring and Evaluation

 In this phase farmers still monitored in their understanding about important

information about cultural practices prevent rodents’ infestation.
