Dear Readers,
The Honourable Speaker, National Assembly of Pakistan/ President, PIPS Board of
Governors, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, MNA, steered an important meeting of the BoG on Monday,
Nov., 21, 2022. The Board undertook a candid review of Insti-tute's services and reiterated to
enhance the PTV Parliament Initiative.
Enormous thanks to Allah SWT the Master of the Whole Universe and the Crea-tor of All; the
Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS) continues its progress as an internationally
recognized seat of parliamentary learning that offers legislative, research, capacity building &
outreach services to the Hon. Members of Parliament & Parliamentary institutions. Based on
last five years of PIPS services, it has been recognized in the Global mapping of 73 worldwide
parliamentary mechanisms for accessing academic research by a project of the UK's
Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology. (see details inside)

 Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS) recognized in Global
mapping of parliamentary mechanisms for accessing academic research

Research evidence has an important role to play in the work of Parliaments as they scrutinise, debate and
pass legislation. Some parliaments have well-known mechanisms for accessing and harnessing research from
the academic community. A project of the UK's Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology has
launched in November, 2022 a Global Map that highlights how parliaments across the world access and
harness research from academia and show the breadth of activity being carried out.

Each mechanism/institution on the map provides, synthesises or produces academic research for
parliamentary purposes. Many provide research to parliamentarians on request, some produce peer-
reviewed evidence syntheses and reports, and some provide direct links to the academic community. All 73
institutions recognized including the Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS) have been
actively doing this work within the past 5 years. These Mechanisms were identified as part of a research
project undertaken by Ms. Vicky Ward and Prof. Mark Monaghan at the request of the UK's
Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology.

The map that highlights the breadth of activity being carried out across the world, that can be accessed
through the IPEN, International Parliament Engagement Network webpage: Global Mapping - IPEN
(ipen-network.org). One of the aims of this work is to build global connections between mechanisms and
those who are involved in them. We hope that you will use the map as a resource to identify new connections
and learning opportunities.
