Stress relieving process:

This process should be done after the machining or grinding process and before
hardening process.
Heat the component to 600 - 700°C and soak well (for approximately two hours), then cool in
air.

Hardening process:
Step 1: Pre heat the material at 593°C, Heat at a rate not exceeding 400°F per hour (222°C
per hour) to 1100°F (593°C) equalize.
Step 2: Then heat to 1450-1550°F (788-843°C).
Step 2: Then continue heating to the final hardening temperature. (Heat rapidly from the
preheat.)
Furnace temperature - 2250°F (1232°C)

Salt temperature - 2225°F (1218°C)

Do not leave the steel too long at the hardening temperature.
Step 3: Quench in salt maintained at 1000-1100°F (538-593°C), equalize, then cool in still air
to 150-125°F (66-51°C).

Tempering process:
Temper immediately after quenching.
Typical tempering range is 1025°F (550°C).
Hold at temperature for 2 hours, then air cool to ambient temperature.
Triple tempering is required.

REQUIRED HARDNESS – 65HRC
