Inadequate risk assessment :
1. The risk assessment is global and not evaluating the hazards associated with the work method
statement (ex: using physical risk as a designation of the risk and “use safe working method as and
action ” also provide the required PPE )
2. The risk and action must be specific as the activities is specific and also actions required

KERABUTYL BB S
Soft rubber lining to protect steel components
Base
Bromobutyl rubber (BIIR)
Material Group
Workshop rubber linings
On-site rubber lining
Description
Self-vulcanizing soft rubber lining based on bromobutyl rubber (BIIR) for protection of steel components. Depending on the require-
ments, the layer thickness of the rubber sheet can be 2-6 mm.
Use
Rubber is used to protect chemical-loaded steel parts, primarily on absorbers, channels, storage and reservoir tanks in flue gas des-
ulphurisation units, and tanks in the chemical industry. It is also used in the phosphoric acid industry. The coating is also suitable for
use under vacuum.
Properties
The material stands out for its excellent chemical resistance and a high resistance to diffusion, especially to steam.
In addition, it offers all the advantages of a non-vulcanized rubber sheet, such as problem-free application with difficult geometries
and high adhesion to steel substrates.
The rubber coating is bonded to the substrate using an elastomeric adhesive based on butyl rubber. Even at high operating temper-
atures the adhesion is excellent, so that the rubber sheet can be used without problems under vacuum stress.

SECTION 4: First aid measures
4.1. Description of first aid measures
General information
Move victim out of danger zone. In case of accident or unwellness, seek medical advice immediately (show directions for
use or safety data sheet if possible). Remove contaminated, saturated clothing immediately.
After inhalation
Provide fresh air. In all cases of doubt, or when symptoms persist, seek medical advice.
After contact with skin
After contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of water and soap.
Take off immediately all contaminated clothing and wash it before reuse. Medical treatment necessary.
After contact with eyes
After contact with the eyes, rinse with water with the eyelids open for a sufficient length of time, then consult an
ophthalmologist immediately.
After ingestion
Observe risk of aspiration if vomiting occurs. Rinse mouth immediately and drink plenty of water. Medical treatment
necessary.
4.2. Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed
The following symptoms may occur: Asthmatic complaints. difficulties of breathing. Coughing.
4.3. Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed
Treat symptomatically. Symptoms of poisoning may develop several hours following exposure. Victim should be under
medical observation for at least 48 hours after exposure.
SECTION 5: Firefighting measures
5.1. Extinguishing media
Suitable extinguishing media
Water spray jet, Carbon dioxide (CO2), Foam, Extinguishing powder.
Co-ordinate fire-fighting measures to the fire surroundings.
Unsuitable extinguishing media
High power water jet.
5.2. Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture
Highly flammable. Vapours can form explosive mixtures with air.
The vapour of the product is heavier than air and may accumulate below ground level, in pits, channels and basements in
higher concentration. Vapours can travel considerable distances to a source of ignition where they can ignite, flash back,
or explode.
In case of fire may be liberated:
Pyrolysis products, toxic. Carbon monoxide Carbon dioxide.
5.3. Advice for firefighters
In case of fire: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus.
Co-ordinate fire-fighting measures to the fire surroundings.
Additional information
Use water spray jet to protect personnel and to cool endangered containers. Suppress gases/vapours/mists with water
spray jet. Collect contaminated fire extinguishing water separately. Do not allow entering drains or surface water.
SECTION 6: Accidental release measures
6.1. Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures
Remove all sources of ignition. Do not breathe gas/fumes/vapour/spray. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothes. Use
personal protection equipment.
6.2. Environmental precautions
Do not allow uncontrolled discharge of product into the environment. Danger of explosion
6.3. Methods and material for containment and cleaning up
Absorb with liquid-binding material (e.g. sand, diatomaceous earth, acid- or universal binding agents). Treat the recovered
material as prescribed in the section on waste disposal.
6.4. Reference to other sections
Safe handling: see section 7
Personal protection equipment: see section 8
Disposal: see section 13
SECTION 7: Handling and storage
7.1. Precautions for safe handling
Advice on safe handling
If handled uncovered, arrangements with local exhaust ventilation have to be used. Do not breathe
gas/fumes/vapour/spray.
Advice on protection against fire and explosion
Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Vapours can
form explosive mixtures with air. Vapours can travel considerable distances to a source of ignition where they can ignite,
flash back, or explode. The vapour of the product is heavier than air and may accumulate below ground level, in pits,
channels and basements in higher concentration.
