Cultures:

The essence of French culture is in the motto “freedom, equality and fraternity”, which
describes the importance of certain values in the country. For much of its history, France
played a central role in European culture.

What do the French do in their spare time?

Calling friends for na apéro (appetizer) at home is much more common than in Brazil. I
confess that this is one of the characteristics I like most about the French. ... Even if it’s
totally improvised and without excesses, friends are always welcome!

What is the most spoken language in France?

Of course, the most widely spoken language in France is French. However, many other
languages are also part of the French’s daily life, mainly because of immigration. Some
examples are Arabic, Spanish and of course English. Many people believe that the
French don’t speak English, but that’s not true! A large part of them, especially the
younger ones, so feel free to communicate in English too.

types of music the French like

The Devil’s Doors of Notre-Dame Cathedral

The first urban legend takes place in the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris in the 13th
century. More precisely, during its construction, a young and talented blacksmith was
given the duty to produce the wrought iron ornaments to be placed on the cathedral
doors. This blacksmith saw this as a great acknowledgment and was very proud of it,
thus designing the very complex and religious arabesques, which, as soon as they were
presented, generated a lot of admiration. As the days went by, the blacksmith recognized
that his designs were somewhat hasty and out of the question, as there would hardly be
any chance of being perfectly reproduced in metal. With that, he – who was called
Biscornet – became desperate, and for one night in this situation, the Devil made him a
proposal, so that in exchange for carrying out this work successfully, Biscornet would
give him his soul. The blacksmith accepted the pact and the next morning all the work
was done perfectly, and when it was installed at the church door, it left everyone dazzled.
However, as the pact was not forgotten, on the day of the inauguration of the cathedral,
the doors did not open at all, being unlocked only after the religious poured a lot of holy
water over it. From that moment on, these doors were called “Devil’s Doors”, which are
often called that way to this day.
