Simple and Compound Sentences (HW 1)

I. Punctuate the following sentences by looking at how the clauses are connected. If it is a simple
sentence write, “S” on the line. If it is a compound sentence write “CD” on the line.

Remember:

1. A simple sentence would not require a comma.

Example: She went to see the movie and liked it very much.

2. A compound sentence requires a comma before the conjunction or a semicolon with


no conjunction.

Example: She went to see the movie, and she liked it very much.

She went to see the movie; she liked it very much.

1. I would go with you but I am tired and just want to go to bed.

3. My mom sets the alarm and wakes me in the morning.
