Corazon Aquino's leadership as the first female president of the Philippines had a significant impact on

1. Impact on Political Landscape

- She established policies aimed at promoting good governance and reducing corruption such as the
anti-corruption commission- the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) which worked
towards recovering ill-gotten wealth accumulated by those close to Marcos' regime.

2. Restoration of Democracy

- The political situation in the Philippines was characterized by human rights abuses, corruption and
economic decline during the authoritarian rule of Ferdinand Marcos. However, Aquino led millions of
Filipinos to peacefully protest against Marcos' regime. Her bravery and determination inspired people
from all walks of life to join forces in demanding democratic change. As a result of this revolution,
Marcos was ousted from power and Aquino assumed office as President.
