PRODUCTION ASSIGNMENT #3

ELECTRONIC DOCUMENT PREPARATION & MANAGEMENT

SCHOOL BASED ASSESSMENT MAY/JUNE 2023
ASSIGNMENT 3

As the world moves rapidly into a technological age, there is equipment applicable for
everyone,
even to teachers in the classrooms. One such equipment is drones. Using drones in the
classroom
can help students learn about their environment in real time, making subjects such as the
sciences, geography simpler. It has also aided student in increasing their productivity in the
classroom.
Let’s assume that your school is given a grant to promote technology integration to create
modern day classrooms. As students you have decided to take up the responsibility to convince
the principal to consider the implementation of drones.
Prepare a PowerPoint presentation (using no more than 15 slides) for this task. Your
presentation
should include the following:
• What are drones?
• Types of drones (at least 3 types)
• How do drones work?
• The features of drones.
• Benefits and drawbacks of using drones.
• Point out how drones can be used in subjects such as Mathematics and Geography.
• Outline the use of drones in different aspects (training, entertainment).
• In one paragraph explain why your school should incorporate Drone Technology to
• benefit students.
• Pictures and other formatting features can be used to enhance your presentation.

Note: Resources can include, but are not limited to books, magazines, encyclopedias and
Internet
sites. Prepare a bibliography using APA guidelines.
Drones
 What are drones?

A Drone is an unmanned aircraft or ship that can navigate

autonomously, without human control or beyond line of sight:
the GPS of a U.S. spy drone.
 Types of drones

Multi-Rotor Drones. Fixed-Wing Drones

Single-Rotor Drones
 How do drones work?
Drones, also known as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), are
aircraft that can be operated remotely by humans or autonomously
through pre-programmed instructions. The basic principles of how
drones work involve aerodynamics, propulsion, control systems, and
communication technology. They combine principles of
aerodynamics, propulsion, control systems, and communication
technology to achieve flight and carry out a wide range of tasks,
from recreational flying to industrial and military applications.
Features of Drones are:
• Live Video Streaming: Many drones are equipped with cameras that
can transmit live video feeds to the operator's device in real-time,
providing a first-person view (FPV) from the drone's perspective.

• Remote Control: Most drones can be controlled remotely using a

dedicated controller, smartphone, tablet, or computer

• Camera Features: Drones with cameras offer various features like

adjustable camera settings, panorama mode, time-lapse recording,
and even automated subject tracking.
• Smartphone Apps: Manufacturers often provide companion apps that
offer additional control options, flight planning, camera settings, and
firmware updates for their drones

• Gesture Control: Some consumer drones allow users to control the

drone's movements and capture photos/videos using hand gestures,
providing an intuitive and interactive experience.
Benefits of using drones are:
• Cost-Effective: Drones can often perform tasks that would otherwise
require expensive equipment or manual labor, making them cost-effective
for tasks like aerial photography, surveying, mapping, and inspection.

• Efficiency: Drones can cover large areas quickly and provide detailed
data from hard-to-reach or hazardous locations.

• Safety: Using drones for tasks that involve risks to human safety, such as
inspecting power lines, bridges, or disaster-stricken areas, can help avoid
exposing workers to potentially dangerous situations
Drawbacks of using drones are:
• Regulatory Issues: Drone operations are subject to regulations and airspace
restrictions imposed by aviation authorities, which can limit their use in
certain areas and under specific conditions.

• Limited Flight Time: Most consumer drones have relatively short battery life,
limiting their operational time and requiring careful planning for longer
tasks.

• Weather Sensitivity: Adverse weather conditions such as strong winds, rain,

and low visibility can impact drone operations and flight safety.
 Uses of Drones in subject such as Mathematics and Geography.

Mathematics:
• Geometry and Trigonometry: Drones offer hands-on applications of geometry and
trigonometry. Students can learn about angles, distances, and measurements by
planning and executing drone flight paths and calculating distances between waypoints.

• Coordinate Systems: Drones operate within coordinate systems, providing a tangible

context for understanding Cartesian coordinates, latitude and longitude, and altitude.

• Data Analysis: Students can collect data during drone flights, such as altitude, speed,
and distance. They can then analyze this data using mathematical concepts to draw
conclusions and make predictions.
Geography
• Field Studies: Drones allow students to conduct field studies remotely,
observing and collecting data from locations that might be difficult to
access otherwise.

• Topography and Terrain Analysis: Drones can capture high-resolution

imagery of landscapes, enabling students to study topography, landforms,
and changes in elevation.

• Climate and Weather Monitoring: Drones equipped with weather sensors

can collect data on temperature, humidity, wind speed, and air pressure,
aiding students' understanding of climate patterns and weather forecasting.
 Uses of drones in different aspects (training, entertainment).
Training:
• Educational Institutions: Drones are used in schools, colleges, and
universities to teach various subjects, including science, technology,
engineering, mathematics (STEM), geography, and more. Students learn
about drone technology, aerodynamics, programming, and data analysis
through hands-on activities and projects.

• Military and Defense: Military personnel receive drone training to operate

and control UAVs for reconnaissance, surveillance, intelligence gathering,
and target tracking. Training covers remote piloting, communication
systems, and tactical applications.
Entertainment:
• Aerial Photography and Videography: Drones are widely used to capture
breathtaking aerial photos and videos for weddings, events, real estate, travel,
and filmmaking. They provide unique angles and perspectives that were
previously difficult to achieve.
• Recreational Flying: Consumer drones allow hobbyists to enjoy flying as a
recreational activity, exploring the skies and practicing their piloting skills.
Drone racing has emerged as a popular competitive sport, combining piloting
skills with high-speed maneuvers.
 why school should incorporate Drone Technology to
benefit students.
Incorporating Drone Technology into our school curriculum would provide our
students with a transformative educational experience that combines hands-on learning,
technological innovation, and real-world applications. Drones offer a dynamic platform for
exploring concepts in aerodynamics, mathematics, and data analysis while also introducing
ethical discussions around privacy and responsible technology use. By embracing Drone
Technology, our school can empower students with the tools they need to succeed in the
digital age while fostering a passion for innovation and exploration.
