The central conflict in “Midsummer” revolves around Awiyao’s desire to have a child,
particularly a son, to carry on his lineage. However, his wife Lumnay cannot bear him a child,
which creates tension and sadness in their marriage.
IV. Plot
A.xposition- The story introduces Awiyao and Lumnay, a couple who have been married for
seven harvest seasons but remain childless. Awiyao desires a son to carry on his name and family
lineage.
B.Rising Action- Awiyao decides to leave Lumnay and marry another woman who can give him
the child he desires. Lumnay feels heartbroken but tries to be understanding.
C.Climax- During the traditional fertility dance, Lumnay tries desperately to win Awiyao back,
dancing with fervor and passion. However, Awiyao remains determined to leave her.
D.Falling Action- Awiyao leaves the celebration, and Lumnay is left alone, devastated by the loss
of her husband and the dream of having a child.
E.Denouement- Lumnay reflects on her situation, realizing the depth of her love for Awiyao and
the pain of their separation.
V.Theme
The story explores themes of tradition versus personal desires, the complexities of love and

VI. Moral/Lesson
