POSSIBLE QUESTIONS OF THE TITLE DEFENSE

1. Can you provide a brief overview of your research topic and why you chose it?
2. What led you to choose this particular research topic?
3. Could you explain the specific aims and objectives of your study?
4. What is the specific research question or questions that you are addressing in your study?
5. Could you explain your chosen qualitative methodology and why it is appropriate for your research?
6. Who is your target audience, and how do you plan to disseminate your research findings to them?
7. Based on your study, where is your dependent and independent variable?
8. What is the purpose of your Theoretical Lens?
9. What is the purpose of your Methodology?
The two main types of variables are dependent and independent variables.
1. Dependent Variable (DV):
 The dependent variable is the outcome or response that researchers are interested in
understanding, explaining, or predicting.
 It is called "dependent" because its value depends on or is influenced by changes in the
independent variable.
 In an experiment, the dependent variable is what is measured or observed to see how it
changes in response to manipulations of the independent variable.
 In a correlational study, the dependent variable is what is being predicted or explained by
changes or differences in the independent variable(s).
2. Independent Variable (IV):
 The independent variable is the variable that is manipulated or controlled by the researcher.
 It is called "independent" because it is presumed to cause or influence changes in the
dependent variable.
 In an experiment, the independent variable is deliberately changed or varied to observe its
effect on the dependent variable.
 In a correlational study, the independent variable(s) are the variables that are measured or
observed to see how they relate to changes or differences in the dependent variable.
To illustrate with an example:
 Let's say a researcher wants to investigate the effect of different study techniques on exam scores.
 In this case, the independent variable would be the study technique (e.g., method A, method B,
method C).
 The dependent variable would be the exam scores obtained by the participants after using each
study technique.
 By manipulating the independent variable (the study technique) and measuring its impact on the
dependent variable (exam scores), the researcher can determine if there's a causal relationship
between the two variables.
In summary, the dependent variable is the outcome being studied, while the independent variable is the
factor that is manipulated or controlled to observe its effect on the dependent variable.
