collecting the specimen. 4. Negative culture results mean that routinely grown aerobic bacteria were either non-viable or absent in the
specimen. Negative culture results do not rule out infection and should not be used as the sole basis for treatment or other patient
management decisions. 5. Negative culture results must be combined with clinical observations, patient history, and epidemiological
information. 6. The result relates only to the specimen received in the laboratory. 7. This test does not rule out infection caused by
viral or parasitic pathogens.
