1) LIGHTING IN COMMERCIAL AND PUBLIC SPACE

INTRODUCTION
We currently like to light buildings. There are probably no important objects
without their night illumination. There are cities such as Budapest, Lion, Hong Kong, Opole,
which have planned overall illumination of the whole or part of the city. Especially in the vicinity
of the river or bay, water is an additional element enhancing the aesthetic effects in the form of
reflection of lights. The lighting of objects and spaces plays an important role, e.g. functional,
aesthetic, for safety and pleasure of use, as well as to extend the time of use, highlight and
highlight important objects, etc. According to research and observation, this approach simply
pays off. Inhabitants and tourists are staying in public spaces in the evening, walking and using
gastronomic services. They stay longer and are happy to come back or recommend such places
to others - and here it is. The combination of LED technology and solar farms gives excellent
results. The most important thing is that lighting and photovoltaic technologies are constantly
evolving, they are becoming more effective and cheaper. It is important to use the latest lighting
solutions for new projects.

ABSTRACT
This dissertation delves into the pivotal role of lighting design in shaping the
ambiance, functionality, and safety of commercial and public spaces, particularly in urban areas.
It synthesizes interdisciplinary research from architecture, urban planning, psychology, and
lighting design to explore how lighting influences human behavior, perception, and mood, while
also examining emerging trends such as LED lighting, smart systems, and sustainability practices.
Moreover, it investigates the impact of lighting on safety and security, addressing pedestrian
visibility and crime prevention, and explores its cultural and aesthetic dimensions, including its
role in expressing identity and enhancing architectural features. Through case studies and
literature review, this study offers insights into effective lighting strategies for creating dynamic
and inviting urban environments

AIM
The aim for lighting in commercial and public spaces varies depending on several factors
including safety, functionality, aesthetics, psychology, and lighting design, human behavior,
perception, mood and energy efficiency.

OBJECTIVE
This dissertation examines key considerations in lighting design for commercial and public
spaces, emphasizing safety, visibility, aesthetics, ambiance, energy efficiency, flexibility, social
interaction, compliance, and environmental impact. It explores how lighting levels can deter
crime while facilitating pedestrian safety and wayfinding. It also discusses the use of lighting to
enhance architectural features, create desired atmospheres, and promote energy-efficient
solutions. Furthermore, it investigates how lighting can foster social interaction, comply with
regulations, and minimize light pollution. Additionally, the study addresses user comfort and
well-being by considering factors like glare and color temperature.

CONCLUTION

The investigation into lighting in commercial and public spaces has highlighted its
pivotal role in urban development, economic vitality, and societal well-being. Through case
studies such as Times Square, Shanghai Bund, and Barcelona's La Rambla, it becomes evident
that dynamic lighting designs and innovative technologies not only enhance the aesthetic
appeal of commercial hubs but also drive tourism, stimulate business growth, and foster vibrant
urban environments. Similarly, in public spaces like Sydney Harbour and Tokyo's Shibuya
Crossing, thoughtful lighting interventions contribute to safety, social cohesion, and cultural
vibrancy, creating inviting and inclusive environments for residents and visitors. Moreover, the
integration of sustainability considerations, exemplified by the adoption of energy-efficient
lighting solutions, underscores the importance of balancing aesthetic aspirations with
environmental stewardship. As cities continue to evolve and face complex challenges,
prioritizing lighting as an integral element of urban design and placemaking remains essential
for creating resilient, livable, and sustainable urban landscapes.
