HEADLINE: Death Toll from the landslide has reached 68 deaths .

68 dead bodies recovered from the landslide. It occurred at Barangay Masara, Maco, Davao De

Oro on February 6. According to Edward Macapili, spokesperson of the Davao De Oro

Provincial Disaster Office last Monday. The landslide buried 3 buses and a jeepney waiting for

employees of a gold mining firm and 55 houses, leaving 32 injured. Apex Mining Corporation

said that the province of Davao De Oro experienced two weeks of heavy rain before the

incident. According to Edward Macapili, the search and rescue teams remain at a depth of 50

meters for now.

HEADLINE: PCG Vessel harassed by Chinese Coast Guard Ship.

Just recently, the Chinese Coast Guard (CCG) allegedly harassed the BRP Teresa

Magbanua, a Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) vessel, during a nine-day patrol in the West

Philippine Sea. The BRP Teresa Magbanua began patrolling the waters near

Scarborough Shoal to distribute supplies to Filipino fishermen on February 1. During the

nine-day mission, the CCG is said to have carried out dangerous manoeuvres and

blockades on the PCG vessel at least four times, including crossing in front of the BRP

Teresa Magbanua twice. In addition the CCG ships also chased the BRP Teresa

Magbanua on more than forty occasions. There were also an additional 4 Chinese

Maritime Militia (CMM) ships accompanying the CCG vessels in the chase. The PCG

also released footage showing the CCG vessels doing the said dangerous manoeuvres.

But despite the incidents, the 97 meter PCG vessel managed to pull through and

complete its mission.

HEADLINE: Petroleum Rollback implemented insufficient for consumers.

Numerous petroleum consumers have complained about the unfair reduction in oil

prices. As CleanFuel, SeaOil, and Shell implemented a slight decrease in the price of

diesel to 10 cents, 60 centavos, for gasoline and 40 centavos for kerosene for each litre

on February 13. Many of the petroleum consumers have shared their dismay regarding

the said announcements. According to several economists, changes in oil prices are

determined by the weekly changes in the price of oil on the market.

HEADLINE: Sweden’s Largest Amusement Park, burned down.

Locals living in Gothenburg, Sweden was alarmed when Liseberg Amusement Park

caused a fire. According to Liseberg, the fire started at one of the Water Attraction that

can be found in the first building. Police evacuated hotel and office workers that is

connected to Liseberg Amusement Park, they also alarmed the citizens to stay at their

houses because of the thick smoke. The water park was part of the expansion project

for the Amusement Park and was said that it was supposed to open at the end of the

year.
