PROCESS SPECIFICATION
COLD HYDRAULIC FORMING PROCEDURE

1. SCOPE

This procedure specifies general requirements for cold hydraulic forming

of NO.4 AN PJT.

2. APPLICABLE CODES AND STANDARDS

2.1 ASME : American Society of Mechanical Engineering

2.2 EJMA 9th EDITION
2.3 MAKER STANDARD

3.PROCESS

3.1 Material Cutting

Material cutting may be performed to shape and size by mechanical means

such as machining, shearing, grinding, or plasma arc cutting.
After plasma arc cutting, all slag, dross, or other foreign material
shall be removed by mechanical means prior to further fabrication or use.

3.2 Cold Hydraulic Forming

3.2.1 Cold forming is defined as forming with the material temperature

lower than 100°F below the lower critical temperature of the
material.

3.2.2 The preparation by machine or tool used. The surfaces of A240-304L

which are to be in contact with other steels shall be covered with
a protective substance (hard paper or cloth)

3.2.3 A metal cylinder having only longitudinal seams, is placed in a

hydraulic press machine. circular external die rings or suitable
contour are placed outside the cylinder at longitudinal intervals
approximately equal to the developed length of the completed
convolution.
The cylinder is filled with a medium such as water (less than 500
ppm chlorides) and pressurized by pressing the press until circumf-
erential yielding occurs.
The forming operation continues as a simultaneous circumferential

cylinder until the proper configuration is obtained.

☞ Pressing force is must heigher

than the cylinder elastic limit

☞ Liner must be removed before pressing.

4.INSPECTION

Extreme care shall be exercise throughout the work to prevent defects and
damage to the formed surfaces of the work piece.
