Bible Verses about Judging - Scriptures on

Judgment

It is very easy to be confused when you hear

that Christians are to "judge not" but also to
discern and judge what is truth. Jesus tells us
to look at our own sin before judging someone
else. The Bible tells us we are to confront
others' sins with truth and love with respect.

Matthew 7:1-5

1 “Do not judge, or you too will be

judged.
2 For in the same way you judge others,
you will be judged, and with the
measure you use, it will be measured to
you.
3 “Why do you look at the speck of
sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay
no attention to the plank in your own
eye?
4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let
me take the speck out of your eye,’
when all the time there is a plank in your
own eye?
5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out
of your own eye, and then you will see
clearly to remove the speck from your
brother’s eye.

Luke 6:37-42

37 “Do not judge, and you will not be

judged. Do not condemn, and you will
not be condemned. Forgive, and you will
be forgiven.
38 Give, and it will be given to you. A
good measure, pressed down, shaken
together and running over, will be
poured into your lap. For with the
measure you use, it will be measured to
you.”
39 He also told them this parable: “Can
the blind lead the blind? Will they not
both fall into a pit?
40 The student is not above the
teacher, but everyone who is fully
trained will be like their teacher.
41 “Why do you look at the speck of
sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay
no attention to the plank in your own
eye?
42 How can you say to your brother,
‘Brother, let me take the speck out of
your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see
the plank in your own eye? You
hypocrite, first take the plank out of
your eye, and then you will see clearly to
remove the speck from your brother’s
eye.

John 8:1-8

1 but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.

2 At dawn he appeared again in the
temple courts, where all the people
gathered around him, and he sat down
to teach them.
3 The teachers of the law and the
Pharisees brought in a woman caught in
adultery. They made her stand before
the group
4 and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this
woman was caught in the act of
adultery.
5 In the Law Moses commanded us to
stone such women. Now what do you
say?”
6 They were using this question as a
trap, in order to have a basis for
accusing him. But Jesus bent down and
started to write on the ground with his
finger.
7 When they kept on questioning him,
he straightened up and said to them,
“Let any one of you who is without sin
be the first to throw a stone at her.”
8 Again he stooped down and wrote on
the ground.

Luke 6:31-36

31 Do to others as you would have them

do to you.
32 “If you love those who love you, what
credit is that to you? Even sinners love
those who love them.
33 And if you do good to those who are
good to you, what credit is that to you?
Even sinners do that.
34 And if you lend to those from whom
you expect repayment, what credit is
that to you? Even sinners lend to
sinners, expecting to be repaid in full.
35 But love your enemies, do good to
them, and lend to them without
expecting to get anything back. Then
your reward will be great, and you will
be children of the Most High, because
he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.
36 Be merciful, just as your Father is
merciful.

James 4:11-12

11 Brothers and sisters, do not slander

one another. Anyone who speaks
against a brother or sister or judges
them speaks against the law and judges
it. When you judge the law, you are not
keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it.
12 There is only one Lawgiver and
Judge, the one who is able to save and
destroy. But you—who are you to judge
your neighbor?

Romans 2:1-3

1 You, therefore, have no excuse, you

who pass judgment on someone else,
for at whatever point you judge another,
you are condemning yourself, because
you who pass judgment do the same
things.
2 Now we know that God’s judgment
against those who do such things is
based on truth.
3 So when you, a mere human being,
pass judgment on them and yet do the
same things, do you think you will
escape God’s judgment?

Romans 14:1-13

1 Accept the one whose faith is weak,

without quarreling over disputable
matters.
2 One person’s faith allows them to eat
anything, but another, whose faith is
weak, eats only vegetables.
3 The one who eats everything must
not treat with contempt the one who
does not, and the one who does not eat
everything must not judge the one who
does, for God has accepted them.
4 Who are you to judge someone else’s
servant? To their own master, servants
stand or fall. And they will stand, for the
Lord is able to make them stand.
5 One person considers one day more
sacred than another; another considers
every day alike. Each of them should be
fully convinced in their own mind.
6 Whoever regards one day as special
does so to the Lord. Whoever eats meat
does so to the Lord, for they give thanks
to God; and whoever abstains does so
to the Lord and gives thanks to God.
7 For none of us lives for ourselves
alone, and none of us dies for ourselves
alone.
8 If we live, we live for the Lord; and if
we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether
we live or die, we belong to the Lord.
9 For this very reason, Christ died and
returned to life so that he might be the
Lord of both the dead and the living.
10 You, then, why do you judge your
brother or sister ? Or why do you treat
them with contempt? For we will all
stand before God’s judgment seat.
11 It is written: “ ‘As surely as I live,’ says
the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before
me; every tongue will acknowledge
God.’ ”
12 So then, each of us will give an
account of ourselves to God.
13 Therefore let us stop passing
judgment on one another. Instead, make
up your mind not to put any stumbling
block or obstacle in the way of a brother
or sister.

Romans 12:16

16 Live in harmony with one another. Do

not be proud, but be willing to associate
with people of low position. Do not be
conceited.
17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be
careful to do what is right in the eyes of
everyone.

on you, live at peace with everyone.

Galatians 6:1-6

1 Brothers and sisters, if someone is

caught in a sin, you who live by the
Spirit should restore that person gently.
But watch yourselves, or you also may
be tempted.
2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in
this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
3 If anyone thinks they are something
when they are not, they deceive
themselves.
4 Each one should test their own
actions. Then they can take pride in
themselves alone, without comparing
themselves to someone else,
5 for each one should carry their own
load.
6 Nevertheless, the one who receives
instruction in the word should share all
good things with their instructor.

1 Corinthians 6:1-6

1 If any of you has a dispute with

another, do you dare to take it before
the ungodly for judgment instead of
before the Lord’s people?
2 Or do you not know that the Lord’s
people will judge the world? And if you
are to judge the world, are you not
competent to judge trivial cases?
3 Do you not know that we will judge
angels? How much more the things of
this life!
4 Therefore, if you have disputes about
such matters, do you ask for a ruling
from those whose way of life is scorned
in the church?
5 I say this to shame you. Is it possible
that there is nobody among you wise
enough to judge a dispute between
believers?
6 But instead, one brother takes
another to court—and this in front of
unbelievers!

Hebrews 4:12 - The Word of God

12 For the word of God is alive and
