PRESSURE TESTIN DURE
PURPOSE
20
3.0
40
4.1. To provide a method for pressure testing.
SCOPE
2.1 This procedure shalll apply to all pressure bearing components or systems where
the test procedure is not defined within its AITP and where verification of safe
‘working pressures or leak testing is required prior to installation/shipment.
2.2 Where a number of components with the same test pressure are being tested
these may be done simultaneously by linking them together.
2.3 All pressure testing shall be carried out in a suitably equipped area and adequate
safety precautions taken to ensure no hazard to any person exists during testing.
RESPONSIBILITIES
3.1. Only personnel who have been instructed in the pressure test procedure shall be
permitted to carry out this work.
PROCEDURE
41 Be jon:
4.1.1. Ensure all fitings; hoses etc. to be used in testing have an adequate safe
working pressure.
4.1.2 Ensure all test instruments (gauges, chart records etc.) have in date
calibration certificates.
4.1.3. Ensure all system instruments (gauges, relief valves etc.) who's maximum
working pressure or set pressure is below the proposed test pressure are
disconnected.
4.4.4 Ensure all personnel working adjacent to the test area are aware that
pressure testing is to be carried out.—_

4.1.5. Pressure regulation shall be by the use of proprietary regulators which are
selected to accommodate the maximum pressure rating, range of controls
and flow characteristics.
4.1.6 Alltest equipment shall be fitted with a relief valve set at 1.1 times the safe
working pressure of the equipment.
‘Hydro testing:
4.2.1 Fill components, test hoses etc. with clean, fresh tap water.
4.2.2. Using a hydro pump, place a nominal pressure into the system (3 to 5% of,
test pressure) and purge alll air from the system.
4.2.3 Pressurise system to 10% of test pressure, then stop and check for leaks.
Ifleaks are detected, depressurise system and investigate the problem.
4.2.4 Pressurise system to 50% of test pressure, then stop and check for leaks.
If leaks are detected, depressurise and investigate the problem.
4.2.5 Pressurise system to 100% of test pressure. Isolate system from pump
and leave under pressure for a period not less than 30 mins. The test
shall be deemed successful provided the pressure does not drop more
than 1% of the test pressure over this period.
4.2.6 On completion of the test, depressurise system, dismantle assembly from
test rig, remove all water and dry out the components.
4.2.7 Prepare Inspection and Test Certificates as per specimen attached.
Pneumatic Testing:
4.3.1. Ensure an adequate quantity of the test gas is available at pressures high
enough to carry out the test. The gas to be used and the test pressure will
be defined on the AITP.
4.3.2 If test gas is other than air purge system of air by filing to 10% of working
pressure with test gas then venting (repeat at least twice).
4.3.3 Pressurise system to 10% of test pressure then stop and check for leaks.
If leaks are detected, depressurise system and investigate the problem
Then repeat test.—~~> Hallin
43.4 Pressurise system to 50% of test pressure then stop and check for leaks.
If leaks are detected, depressurise and investigate the problem. Then
repeat test from 2.3.3.
435 Pressurise system to 100% of test pressure. Isolate system from gas
supply and leave under pressure for a period not less than 3 mins. The
test shall be deemed successful provided the pressure does not drop
more than 1% of the test pressure over this period.
4.3.6 On completion of test, depressurise system, slowly to prevent ice forming,
dismantle assembly from test rig.
