13.4 Lenses

Lenses
-Lenses can be divided into two types
(a)Converging Lens

(b)Diverging Lens
Converging Lenses Diverging Lenses
Magnifying Glasses
If the objects is between 1 and 2 focal lengths from the lens then the
image is magnified, inverted and real.
How magnifying glasses
work.
-The dotted lines meet shows as the
position of the image.

-The image is magnified ( bigger than


object)

-This show a magnifying glass

-Virtual (not real)

-The rays are not actual, we could no


see this image on a screen.
Using Lenses to correct eyesight problems
Short Sight
Uncorrected
Vision
A person with short sigh
can see close object
clearly, but distant object
appear out of the focus,
this is because the image
is bought to a focus in
front of the retina.
Corrected
Vision
To correct short sight,
we use a diverging
lens
Long Sight
Uncorrected
Vision
A person who is lighted
sighted can see distant
object clearly but close
objects appears out of
focus.
Corrected
Vision
To correct long sight,
we use converging
lens
Dispersion of
Light
White Light is a mixture of all the color
of rainbow.

Red- Longest wavelength


- Lowest Frequency

Violet- shortest wavelength


- highest frequency
