Amazonian Forest

Amazon Rainforest, large tropical rainforest occupying the drainage basin of the
Amazon River and its tributaries in northern South America and covering an area
of 2,300,000 square miles (6,000,000 square km). Comprising about 40 percent of
Brazil’s total area, it is bounded by the Guiana Highlands to the north, the Andes
Mountains to the west, the Brazilian central plateau to the south, and the Atlantic
Ocean to the east.

Amazonia is the largest river basin in the world, and its forest stretches from the
Atlantic Ocean in the east to the tree line of the Andes in the west. The forest
widens from a 200-mile (320-km) front along the Atlantic to a belt 1,200 miles
(1,900 km) wide where the lowlands meet the Andean foothills. The immense
extent and great continuity of this rainforest is a reflection of the high rainfall, high
humidity, and monotonously high temperatures that prevail in the region.
The Amazon Rainforest is the world’s richest and most-varied biological reservoir,
containing several million species of insects, plants, birds, and other forms of life,
many still unrecorded by science. The luxuriant vegetation encompasses a wide
variety of trees, including many species of myrtle, laurel, palm, and acacia, as well
as rosewood, Brazil nut, and rubber tree. Excellent timber is furnished by the
mahogany and the Amazonian cedar. Major wildlife includes jaguar, manatee,
tapir, red deer, capybara and many other types of rodents, and several types of
monkeys.
How to be eco friendly with nature?
1. Use canvas nets! They are also much more chic than the plastic ones you get
from the supermarket! Always keep a canvas bag in your purse that you can use as
often as needed, when shopping. And if you still happen to need a plastic bag for
transport, remember that it can also be used several times, and then it can end its
"career" as a utility bag.

2.Make short journeys by bike or on food! When the road is too long to walk, but
short enough to cover it on two wheels, a ride by bike or on foot will be good for
the air, which will no longer be polluten whit exhaust fumes, and for your figure.

3. Opt for energy from renewable sources! Solar and photovoltaic panels give us
the chance to enjoy our own source of sustainable, long-term electricity. Using
solar panels brings many benefits, such as:
reducing greenhouse gas emissions
low costs on electricity
they can be installed easily and are eco-friendly
they are available and within reach of all who wish

4. Plants trees for a greener future! As we well know, we need trees in our life to
be able to survive. They provide us whit a rich source of oxygen, prevent soil
erosion and purify the air. Moreover, if we live in the courtyard, they help us
reduce energy consumption, because they are a passive source of cooling the
house, offering us shade throughout the summer, so we no longer need air
conditioning.
