We need to eat to meet our nutritional needs, but people often make their food choices for reasons
other than nutrition. The availability of foods and their cost, the taste and appearance of foods, personal
food likes and dislikes, convenience, religious and cultural practices and traditions, health and medical
conditions, etc. are reasons why people eat the foods that they eat.
The foods in people’s diets around the world are very different from each other, but all good diets must
be composed of a variety of different foods that provide all of the food energy and other nutrients in the
amounts needed. For most people, a good meal will be based on a starchy food, sometimes referred to as a
“staple” food, as it forms the basis or main portion of the meal, and a variety of other foods (side dishes)
that provide the additional protein, vitamins and minerals needed for a good, healthy diet.
Staple foods are usually starchy carbohydrates such as rice, pasta, bread, couscous, maize (corn),
potatoes, and foods made from wheat, rice, rye, barley or oats. The other foods eaten with the meal should
include generous amounts of vegetables and fruits; good amounts of legumes; smaller amounts of meat,
poultry, eggs or fish and milk and milk products, such as cheese and yoghurt. The greater the variety of
side dishes served with the staple food, the greater the chance that all the needed nutrients are included in
the meal.

Family life is changing. Two-parent households are on the decline in the United States as
divorce, remarriage and cohabitation are on the rise. And families are smaller now, both due to
the growth of single-parent households and the drop in fertility. Not only are Americans having
fewer children, but the circumstances surrounding parenthood have changed. While in the early
1960s babies typically arrived within a marriage, today fully four-in-ten births occur to women
who are single or living with a non-marital partner. At the same time that family structures have
transformed, so has the role of mothers in the workplace – and in the home. As more moms have
entered the labor force, more have become breadwinners – in many cases, primary breadwinners

The International Space Station (ISS) is the largest structure humans have ever put into space.
This gigantic satellite is used both as a laboratory for new technologies and an observation
platform for astronomical, environmental and geological research. It is a permanently occupied
outpost in outer space and it is considered to be an important stepping-stone for further space
exploration.
The space station flies at an average altitude of 400 kilometers above the Earth and it circles
the globe every 90 minutes at a speed of about 28,000 kilometers per hour, which means that in
just one day, the station travels about the distance it would take from Earth to the moon and back.
It also means that astronauts on board the ISS get to see a sunrise every one and a half hour.
Five different space agencies representing 15 countries built the International Space Station
for no less than 100 billion dollars. The primary partners on the project are NASA, Russia’s
Roscosmos State Corporation for Space Activities, the European Space Agency, the Canadian
Space Agency and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency.
The International Space Station was taken into space piece-by-piece, which means that consists
of modules and connecting nodes that contain living quarters and laboratories powered by solar
panels. The first module, the Russia Zarya, was launched in 1998. Since then, a number of
different modules have been added, extending the ISS one piece at a time. The space station
spans the area of a U.S. football field, and weighs 391,000 kilograms. The complex now has more
living space than a conventional five-bedroom house, and has two bathrooms and gym facilities
and a 360-degree bay window. Astronauts have also compared the space station’s living space to
the cabin of a Boeing 747 jumbo jet.

answer to each of the questions that follow.
Nowadays, teenagers have changed considerably in comparison to the teens in the past in
how they spend their free time.
This is a “technology” generation. For teens in today’s world, mobile phones, the Internet,
and TV are essential parts of their everyday life. Most teenagers prefer watching TV and surfing
the Internet to reading books. They don’t like reading because watching TV is easier and they
don’t have to use their own imagination. Teenagers prefer to spend free time in front of a
computer rather than to do physical activities such as playing football, riding bikes or going
swimming. According to a recent study, teenagers growing up in the 1970s and 1980s enjoyed
more than two hours of outside play each weekday, and a further nine hours at weekends,
whatever the weather. However, today's teens play outside for just over an hour each weekday,
and fewer than five hours on Saturdays and Sundays.
Teens now often communicate to their friends by instant messages instead of talking face-
to-face. When they want to share their feelings or some private thoughts, they will post them on
Facebook. This makes it easier to get comments or receive encouragement from friends. Keeping
a diary is out of date now.
Teens now spend more time meeting friends in places like fast food restaurants or cafes.
They like to eat fast food, greasy food and sugary drinks more than home-cooked
meals. This leads to obesity.
In conclusion, the lifestyle of teenagers has changed a lot compared to the past. Parents
should encourage their children to play outdoors more. This helps them not only stay active and
healthy but also socialize with friends as well as create treasured childhood memories.

each of the questions.
British teenagers sit up to 70 exams and tests before they reach their GCSEs (The General
Certificate of Secondary Education). But there are ways to ease the stress at exam time.
What a student eats and drinks in the run-up to exams can influence how clearly they think and
how happy they feel. A balanced diet with lots of fruit and vegetables, fish and complex
carbohydrates will help them concentrate and think clearly. Too much high-fat, high-sugar and
high-caffeine food and drink can make studying harder.
Sleeping well and for long enough to feel rested, around six to eight hours for most people, will
help thinking and concentration. Students should allow half an hour or so to wind down between
studying, watching TV or using a computer and going to bed to help them get a good night's
sleep. Regular exercise also helps them sleep better. Cramming all night before an exam is
usually a bad idea.
Parents should be flexible around exam time. When a child is revising all day, don't worry about
household jobs that are left undone or untidy bedrooms. If they're a bit moody they should stay
calm. They can help a child to revise by making sure they have somewhere comfortable to study.
Students should remind themselves that feeling nervous is normal. Nervousness is a typical
reaction to exams. All students will feel it. The key is to put these nerves to positive use. Being
reminded of what they do know and the time they have put into study can help them feel
confident that they can reach their potential.

In comparison with other developing countries, Viet Nam’s population enjoys a relatively

cultures, of which the Chinese and French had most significant influence.
The Imperial Academy - the first university in Viet Nam - was built in 1076 under
Emperor Ly Nhan Tong for the education of sons of royalty and other high-ranking officials. In
1252, the college was opened to students from various backgrounds besides royal or official
ones.
Before the French came, the old-type Mandarin system administered Viet Nam for
approximately 2,000 years. As the French took over the government’s administration, it was
converted from a Confucian system into a Western-oriented one.
In order to participate in the civil service under the French rule, the Vietnamese had to
convert to the French system and were required to know the French language. In addition, they
had to have a good facility with the new version of their language instead of the traditional
Chinese characters which had been in use for hundreds of years.
At the beginning of 1900, the whole system was revised. An educational system of three
levels was established: elementary, primary, and secondary education. In addition, the use of the
national language (Quoc Ngu) was added to the curriculum. Emphasis was placed on rote
learning, class discipline and other French educational methods. Several new schools and
colleges were established. Accordingly, French became the second language of much
importance to the students.
