General Education Reflection

The General Education classes I have taken at Iowa State have helped me learn about

many different perspectives, see different viewpoints, and overall aided my learning.

My first few General Education classes were ECON 101 and 102. The classes were

about macroeconomics and microeconomics topics. Through this course, I learned a lot about

the world economy but also the economics of a specific business. It is essential to learn how the

world functions so that I can tackle problems better.

The following General Education class I took was RUS 375. The class was called Russia

Today and focused on topics in Russia, plus relevant historical topics. I took this class before

the invasion of Ukraine but because I had taken this class, my knowledge of the situation was

greater. The topics we talked about were dealing with Russia's leader and the country's political

conflicts. Learning about other countries and what they are doing is essential so we can learn

from it.

The following General Education class I took was LD ST 301. The class was called

Leadership Theory and focused on specific leadership theory topics. This class will be beneficial

throughout my career because learning about how to be a leader and show leadership without a

position of power is really important. I realized that leadership isn’t just having power or position

but skills that you can learn and use in any situation you find yourself in.

The following General Education class I took was LD ST 322. The class, Leadership in a

Diverse Society, focused on diverse leadership theory topics. This class had a lot of leadership

topics surrounding groups, tropes, and diversity. It is good to learn about these topics in a

leadership sense because I will be working with people with very diverse backgrounds and a

completely different experience from mine.

The general education classes I took during my time at Iowa State definitely benefited

me and helped me become a better Cyber Security Engineer. I saw a not of new perspectives

not only from the professor and content but from my classmates who came from different majors
and backgrounds. The leadership classes were not only some of my favorite courses to

participate in but also showed me how to show leadership and learn to be a better leader.
