LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this chapter, the reader will be able to:
• Define medical informatics, also known as clinical informatics.
• Discuss the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and the Health Information
Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH) and their effects on health information
technology (HIT).
• Define the decade of HIT.
• Discuss the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare).
• Define the electronic medical record (EMR) and electronic health record (EHR), and discuss the
differences between the two.
• Define interoperability.
• Define the eHealth Exchange.
• Describe computer information systems used in health care settings.
• Hospital information systems (HIS)
• Financial information systems (FIS)
• Clinical information systems (CIS)

tizennyolcz kötetben, megírta életrajzát, most Swift munkáinak
hasonló kiadásán dolgozik, s azonfelül számos eredeti verses
elbeszélést írt. A szimatolókat éppen e költeményeknek a
regénynyel való rokonságuk vezette nyomra: a multért való rajongás.
énekelve, vidám kedvvel kóboroljanak a vadászkürt szavától hangos
Vitézi öltözetben a népregék alakjai
bolyonganak itt: apáczaszöktető hősök, a kik bűneikért hős halállal
vezekelnek, Marmion módjára; szerelmes lovagok, mint Roland, a
kik az álmukban megjelent szűzet keresve, a hősiség csodáit viszik
véghez (A triermaini nász); a szarvasűzés közben eltévedt király, V.
melyet a búcsúzó vendég ad s mely aztán a leány atyjának, a hős
Douglasnak életét váltja meg (A tó leánya). Történeteinek színes
összeszövéséből sűrűn kicsillog a regék aranyszála; nem hiába
hallgatta gyermekkorában nagyapja falusi házánál a pásztorok
meséit. Csakhogy a szálak többnyire történelmi központ körül
vannak összebogozva; a költött alakok közül rendesen kimagaslik
egy-egy történelmi név; a kóbor lovagok paripái a nagy csatamezők
felé tartanak, a skót dicsőség termőtalajára. Elbeszélésein így
történelmi hangulat rezeg. Fölhalmozott történelmi ismereteiből
munkáiban mindent, a mi színes és ragyogó. Tökéletesen ismerte a
lovagi élet szokásait, a harczjátékok minden szabályát, a csatavívás
fölkereshette a skót várak omladékait, s gyönyörűségét találta régi
fegyverek szemlélgetésében; tömérdek pénzen maga is gazdag
világításának: mindenütt a mondák homálya ködlik, borostyán növi
be a csonka romokat, a boltíves folyosókon az ódon vértek mintha
megmoczczannának a félhomályban. Sohasem épített magára a
komoly történelemre, mindig a költőibb hagyományra; de kiszínezte
ezt a történelem vonásaival és emlékeivel. Nem történelmi verses
elbeszéléseket írt, még kevésbbé hőskölteményeket; csak hosszabb
lélekzetű népmondákat, melyeknek «epikai hitel»-ét nem tárgyuk
való voltában kereste, elhitetésüknél a múlt varázsára s a maga
költői erejére számított, meg olvasóinak képzeletére s rajongására
minden iránt, a mi hősi.
Angliában sem hallatszott tetszetősebb és csengőbb hang;
A közönség kapott Wordsworth tájleírásain, – Scott tüstént
versenyre kél vele. Túlságosan is fogékony volt minden hatás iránt.
Munkatervét is folyvást a körülményekhez szabta. Percy püspök
gyűjteménye folyvást növekvő érdeklődést keltett a népköltés iránt,
Scott maga is lelkesedéssel olvasta e verseket, – tehát csakhamar
Bürgeréivel együtt, mintául vesz a maga próbálkozásainál. Ebből a
elébe sietett a hírnévnek. Természettől fogva ellenállhatatlan hajlam
élt benne, mely arra késztette, hogy a közönség ízléséhez
alkalmazkodjék. Nem bányászta ki önnön lelkének kincseit, nem
fürkészte, hogy kivé kellene néki lennie, – a helyett azon fáradt, hogy
egyben-másban, a mennyire telhetik tőle, a divatos írókhoz
A Scott nagysága
ilyen volt.
Alacsony fának könnyen szedhetni gyümölcsét. Munkái olyan
kelendők voltak, hogy jövedelmükből földet vásárolhatott a Tweed
mentén, a merrefelé valaha a Scottok jószágai terültek, s a melynek
A mennyi népmondát hallhatott vasárnapi bolyongásai közben a
Brit földön játszott, eseményei a cullodeni csata
körül csoportosultak, melynek történetén mindössze hatvan év
könnyű köde borongott. A regény meglettebb olvasói még atyáiktól
hallhattak e napok felől, melyek emlékét eleddig csak a töredékes
szájhagyomány ápolta.
A könyv érdekességét még fokozta, hogy névtelenül jelent meg;
Ő rá vallott a regény fürge leleménye, a
könnyed és kedvtelt előadás, a hősök természete, a festői leírások,
minden. De ha a régi maradt is Scott, a regény formájában
szabadabban érvényesültek egyéniségének megnyerő vonásai:
komoly erkölcse, egészséges életfelfogása, az az áhitat, melylyel a
múlton csüggött, s mely látni engedte, hogy maga is kedvét találja
abban, a mit ír.
léphettek; átélhették apáik korát, melyről gyermekmeséik szóltak;
csélcsap szerelmi kalandok helyett a józan angol életet
szemlélhették, s azzal a szigorú erkölcscsel találkoztak, mely már
kezdte a polgári házakból kiüldözni Byron munkáit.
Anglia bágyadt vagy szenvedélytől marczangolt költői közt
megjelent egy egészséges, józan ember. A pillanat rendkívül
A mióta a
polgárság lett a nemzet magva, a színpadról is kiszorúltak a színes
nagy jelenetek, s helyüket a mindennapi életből vett napihír-
lovagi történeteknek, melyeknek a polgárság mindig készséges
bámulója volt. A franczia forradalom és Napoleon nyomában felgyúlt
a nemzeti érzés, népszerűk lettek a történetírók, Hume, Robertson,
kelendők a történeti művek.
S a skót
Most prózában még fokozottabb mértékben kezdődött újra a régi
termékenység. Mint azelőtt a versek, ezentúl évenként megjelent
egy-egy «Wawerley-regény». Scott a polgári elem Homérja lett.
sarj története, a kit nagybátyja haszonlesésből szinte a halálba
A lammermoori menyasszony
a XVII. században emelt volt kezet hitestársára, a kihez szíve
ellenére kényszerítették. Lassankint a hagyománytól magukhoz
hódítják a történelmi események és személyek: a nagy forradalom
és a restauratió (Peveril, Woodstock), Stuart Mária és Erzsébet
királynő (the Abbot, Kenilworth). Legkedvesebb hősei mégis azok, a
kiknek vállára egy mondát teríthet palástul; legvonzóbb hely előtte a
zöld erdőben az a tisztás, a hol Oroszlánszívű Richard kezet ráz az
íjas Robin Hooddal (Ivanhoe).
E regények természetesen nem mind egyenlő becsűek.
Wawerley, mint első kísérlet, a leggondosabb munka, Ivanhoe
leggazdagabb mondai vonásokban; Redgauntlet alakjain legtöbb az
életből ellesett vonás; ezek a legsikerültebbek. A Scott közönsége
határtalan a közönség érdeklődése s e munkák népszerűsége. Az
erkölcsi és anyagi siker egyaránt páratlan volt. Scott sheriff lett,
Munkáinak anyagi haszna is ritkítja párját.
Széphalomra, Cartley-ból, a mi szemétdomb-félét jelent,
Később hozzávásárolta a völgyet, melyben
valaha a rímelő Tom tanyázott.
Scottok földjét szerepeltette, most birtokán ne játszassa új
regényeinek egyikét (The Monastery). A víz partján pompás kastélyt
építtetett, mely minden egyes részletében a legszebb skót
vídám jelenetekre itt komoly megpróbáltatások következnek; a
tanulság is több életében, mint munkáiban. Vállalkozó kedve s a
ma is olvasott könyvek. Későkori munkáinak legtöbbjében azonban
már csak a szándék szép és tiszteletreméltó. Öregen, özvegyen,
robotba is oly fáradhatatlanul dolgozott – többek közt Napoleon óriás
arányú életrajzán – hogy másodszor is tekintélyes vagyont szerzett s
azzal letörlesztette adósságainak nagyobb felét (vagy három millió
koronát) s visszaváltotta könyvtárát. A szerencsével együtt a
dicsőség is visszamosolygott rá még egyszer. Mikor betegeskedni
kezdett, a kormány a nemzet vendégeül családostul egy hadihajón
vitette Nápolyba. Itt a classikus földön új erőt adott neki állandó
szenvedélye a múlt iránt, s a mit még a nagy emlékeknél is jobban
élvezett, szemének homályosuló tükrére rég áhított képek
rajzolódtak: a Rajna-menti váraké, a melyek előtt hazafelé menet
végig hajózott, s még egyszer szívére hajolt örök szerelmese, a
romantika.
a túlsó partra vitte.
vadászaton, a kinek nevét egész Európa ismeri. Sok szeretetreméltó
vonása, nyílt lelke, derült kedélye, csüggedetlen bizalma és
csorbíthatlan becsületessége vele aludt ki. Írónak is sokkal kiválóbb
egymásra ütnek; későbbi regényei egészükben is majdnem
szakasztott olyanok, mint a régebbiek. Olykor szinte úgy tetszik,
mintha, akárcsak a faluzó színészek, a regényíró is állandó
íróművészet egyik-másik vonása dolgában a legkülönbekkel
vetekszik.
A mi a
legválságosabb pillanatban hősei rendesen lebocsátják sisakjuk
rostélyát. Alakjai rajzában egyáltalán ritkán hatol belül a vérten.
aprólékos leírás támogatja, a mennyire ettől telik.
rendszerint hosszadalmasak is.
kevesen dicsekedhetnek: ő itt a fölfedezők közé tartozik.
