Scenario 1. Cisco DNA Center Assurance Meraki Integration Use Case

Value Proposition: In this demo, we will illustrate the power of:
a. Cross Functional Integration of Meraki in Cisco DNA Center for simplified hybrid architectures.
b. The power of Network Wide Assurance to solve network wide deployment issues.
c. The visibility of Client Focused Assurance to solve for end user errors.

Steps

DIALOG DEMONSTRATION STEPS

Cisco DNA Center is the primary solution for

Cisco customers in a hybrid environment. By
leveraging Meraki Dashboard integrations into
Cisco DNA Center you can seamlessly launch
from one interface to another creating unique
workflows in hybrid environments.

The new topology view integration (1) in Cisco 1. Click Topology on the main Cisco DNA Center web page.
DNA Center allows hybrid customer to get a
visual representation of their hybrid systems.

This represents a new unique troubleshooting

flow for our hybrid customers. For example if
someone calls into the help desk all the admin
would have to do is ask for their employees
location, in this case NAA Branch 1 and their 2. Click on NAA-BR1-AP1 (it is in the upper left hand corner)
username, Ronnie Lott.
Alternative is to type NAA-BR1-AP1 in the search Bar
By leveraging Cisco DNA Center topology we
can see visually what Meraki devices are in the
specified location, then expand go to the
Inventory, from here we can see details of
Meraki Access Points (2) and find the right
network devices (NAA-BR1-AP1) we need to
troubleshoot (3).

3. Copy 172.16.20.2 next to NAA-BR1-AP1

Leveraging our new information we can return to 4. Go Back to the Main Page and Click on Network Devices
the inventory (4).

DIALOG DEMONSTRATION STEPS

This particular user that called in is having 9. Click on RF

wireless connectivity issues so we are going to
check the wireless health of this AP in real time.
By navigating to the RF (9) section of the
network and checking the health of the 2.4 GHZ 10. Change RF to 2.4
(10) frequency we can see no catastrophic
events on the wireless infrastructure (11).

11. Identify no catastrophic events for this AP

12. Go to network Wide -> Clients

Since the wireless is overall healthy, the next

step is to look at the health of the SSID the user
is connected to. By looking at the client list (12),
and finding Ronnie Lotts client (13), we are able
13. Find “Ronnie Lott 1” the Click on Ronnie Lott 1
to see which SSID the device is attempting to
connect to (14). Looking into the SSID (15) we
can see relevant VLAN (16) information we need
to troubleshoot.

Next we can follow the path through the network

to determine if the overall network is having 14. Highlight and call out Corp-PSK
issues.

DIALOG DEMONSTRATION STEPS

Leveraging the power of connected systems, we 15. Go to Wireless SSID’s

head back to AP (17) summary page (18) and
see there is a VLAN issue. By diving deeper into
the VLAN issue. (19)

16. Highlight Corp PSK is on VLAN 40

17. Click on Wireless-> Access Points

18. Click on NAA-BR1-AP1

19. Click the number 1 Under DHCP

DIALOG DEMONSTRATION STEPS

Investigating the request logs (20) we see that 20. Click on Request Logs
VLAN 40 is having DHCP issues. We see the last
5 DHCP Requests have been denied for VLAN
40 (21), pointing us to a wide ranging issue.

21. See request logs and Identify VLAN 40 as having a major issue

Since this is a full stack remote network we are 22. Click on the uplink port
able to walk upstream (22) and determine if
there is a network configuration problem
preventing VLAN 40 from functioning correctly.

We see on the uplink that VLAN 40 is not

accessible over this uplink (23).

This network misconfiguration effected all clients

on that SSID. With the easy to use full stack
interface we were able to quickly find the root
source of the problem. 23. Point out VLAN 40 has been pruned

The Meraki dashboard not only allows visibility 24. Go to Wireless health
into network issues, but also streamlined
visibility into singular client issue. When a
singular user calls into the help desk, in this case
Joe Montana, through wireless health (24) we
can investigating the connections (25) we are
able to view Joe Montana Laptop which is
having issues. By diving into the authentication
(26) troubleshooting of Joe Montana’s Laptop
we are able to point out to them they are
entering the wrong password for authentication
(27). Now that Joe Montana is connected we
25. Click on Connections
want to verify he has the right application
access. By looking into his client, we can quickly
change clients (28) to see Joe Montana Laptop
(29) is now a healthy connected client (30).

26. Scroll down to Connection issues by Client. Click on

Authentication

27. Highlight the user issue and ask them to re-associate

28. Go to Network Wide->Clients

Conclusion
This concludes our demo use cases of Cisco DNA Center Wireless Assurance with Meraki integration. We’ve
been able to demonstrate that the Cisco platforms

• Create a single pane of glass for hybrid organizations

• Operational benefits through information correlation and the impact on problem resolution

• Uses the power of Insights and Analytics with tool integration to rapidly respond and troubleshoot network
problems
