TBT Title: Working Safely with a Permit to Work

Introduction:
Today, we’re focusing on a crucial aspect of safety - the Permit to Work (PTW) system. PTW is a formal
process used to control high-risk activities in the workplace.

Why Permit to Work (PTW) Matters:

1. Risk Mitigation: PTW helps identify and mitigate risks associated with high-risk tasks or activities.
2. Communication: It ensures clear communication among workers, supervisors, and management
about the hazards and safety measures involved.
3. Prevention: By following the PTW process, we prevent accidents and injuries.

Basic PTW Safety Guidelines:

1. Understanding PTW:
• Know what PTW is and why it’s important.
• Understand that PTW is a formal authorization to carry out specific work.
2. Requesting a PTW:
• Before starting any high-risk task, request a PTW from the authorized person or department.
• Provide complete and accurate information about the task, including potential hazards.
3. Reviewing the PTW:
• Review the PTW with authorized person to ensure all necessary safety precautions are in place.
• Understand the scope of work, safety procedures, and emergency response plans.
4. Compliance:
• Adhere to the conditions and safety measures outlined in the PTW.
• Do not start work until you receive a valid PTW.
5. Communication:
• Communicate with coworkers about the PTW, including any safety requirements they should be
aware of.
• Report any changes or deviations from the PTW to the authorized person immediately.
6. Emergency Response:
• Know the emergency procedures outlined in the PTW, including who to contact in case of an
emergency.
• Always be prepared to stop work if conditions become unsafe.
7. Closure and Handover:
• Close out the PTW once the work is complete and the area is safe.
• Hand over any relevant documentation or information to the appropriate parties.

Conclusion:
The Permit to Work system is in place to protect us and prevent accidents during high-risk tasks. By
following the PTW process and communicating effectively, we ensure that everyone is aware of the
hazards and safety measures involved.
