B. The scores of 20 students from 50-item test in Mathematics are tabulated below:
Anthony 49
Hanna 47
Mike 47
Carlo 46
Grace 42
Grace 39
Henry 39
David 38
Andrew 38
Jasmine 34
Leo 34
May 33
Diane 32
Janice 30
Judy 29
Kevin 29
Bruce 27
Candice 27
Mark 26
Ella 25
▪ Note that the 10.5 position is located between the tenth and eleventh data. The
tenth data is 34 and the eleventh data is also 34. Since the tenth and eleventh
data are the same, interpolation is not required.
▪ Therefore, the value of the 𝐏𝟓𝟎 is 34.
3. Those scores that fall below the 2nd decile failed. Who among the students failed in the test?
➢ Bruce, Candice, Mark and Ella are among the students who failed in the test.
• Solution
▪ Locate the position of the score in the distribution:
𝐤(𝐧+𝟏) 𝟐(𝟐𝟎+𝟏)
Position of 𝐃𝒌 = 𝟏𝟎
= 𝑫𝟐 = 𝟏𝟎
= 𝟒. 𝟐
▪ Therefore, the value of the 𝑫𝟐 is 27.4 and the students who failed are Bruce,
Candice, Mark and Ella.
4. The teacher will give rewards to students whose scores fall in the 90th percentile and up. Who
among the students will receive a reward?
➢ Hanna, Mike and Anthony are among the students who will receive a reward.
• Solution
▪ Locate the position of the score in the distribution:
𝐤(𝐧+𝟏) 𝟗𝟎(𝟐𝟎+𝟏)
Position of 𝐏𝒌 = = 𝐏𝟗𝟎 = = 𝟏𝟖. 𝟗
𝟏𝟎𝟎 𝟏𝟎𝟎
▪ Note that the 18.9 position is located between the eighteenth and nineteenth
data. The eighteenth data is 47 and the nineteenth data is also 47. Since the
eighteenth and nineteenth data are the same, interpolation is not required.
▪ Therefore, the value of the 𝐏𝟗𝟎 is 47 and the students who will receive a
reward are Hanna, Mike and Anthony.
C. Margareth took a college entrance test. Her score is at the 85th percentile. If there are 159 test
takers:
𝒌𝑵
− 𝑪𝒇𝒃
𝑸𝒌 = 𝑳𝑩 + [ 𝟒 ]ⅈ
LB = 39999.5 𝒇𝑸𝒌
N = 260 𝟐 (𝟐𝟔𝟎)
− 𝟏𝟐𝟎
𝟒
Q2 = 39999.5 + [ ] 5000
𝒄𝒇𝒃 = 120 𝟑𝟎
𝒇𝑸𝒌 = 30
Q2 = 39999.5 + 1666.67
ⅈ = 5000 Q2 ≈ 41666.17
2. Those salaries greater than or equal to the 85th percentile and up belong to the top management.
What is the minimum salary in the top management?
➢ The minimum salary in the top management is ₱62666.17.

Identify the class containing the P85 class = = = 221. This means we need to locate
100 100
th
the class interval containing the 221 data. That would be within the class interval 60000 –
64999. Let us then identify the values required for the formula:
𝒌𝑵
𝟏𝟎𝟎 − 𝑪𝒇𝒃
𝑷𝒌 = 𝑳𝑩 + [ ]ⅈ
LB = 59999.5 𝒇𝑷𝒌
N = 260 𝟖𝟓 (𝟐𝟔𝟎)
− 𝟐𝟏𝟑
𝟏𝟎𝟎
P85 = 59999.5 + [ ] 5000
𝒄𝒇𝒃 = 213 𝟏𝟓
𝒇𝑷𝒌 = 15
P85 = 59999.5 + 2666.67
ⅈ = 5000
P85 ≈ 62666.17
3. The utility personnel earn less than or equal to the 3rd decile. What is the maximum salary of a
utility personnel?
➢ The maximum salary of a utility personnel is ₱33648.15.
𝑘𝑁 3(260)
Identify the class containing the D3 class = = = 78. This means we need
10 10
to locate the class interval containing the 78th data. That would be within the class
interval 30000 – 34999. Let us then identify the values required for the formula:
𝒌𝑵
− 𝑪𝒇𝒃
𝑫𝒌 = 𝑳𝑩 + [ 𝟏𝟎 ]ⅈ
LB = 29999.5 𝒇𝑫𝒌
N = 260 𝟑 (𝟐𝟔𝟎)
− 𝟓𝟏
𝟏𝟎
D3 = 29999.5 + [ 𝟑𝟕
] 5000
𝒄𝒇𝒃 = 51
ⅈ = 5000 D3 ≈ 33648.15

FOURTH QUARTER – WEEK 4
MODULE 2: FORMULATING STATISTICAL MINI RESEARCH
ACTIVITY 1
1. How many hours do students allocate for mobile games in a day?
− The goal of this study is to determine how many hours a student spends per day playing
mobile games versus time spent doing academic work. The findings of this study, based
on the data acquired, will assist in establishing the reasons why students have been
delaying the submission of their activities.
3. How many parents attend the general and homeroom PTA assembly?
− The purpose of this study is to determine the number of parents who attend general
and homeroom PTA assembly meetings, as well as how many parents are unable to
attend and the reason, they are unable to do so. The study's findings may help teachers
become more aware of their students' parents' active involvement.
