boys over girls in sending schools. Girls drop out before going for higher studies.

than an average man yet her unpaid work is generally not given importance.

● There is no official religion of the Indian state. Unlike the status of Buddhism in
Sri Lanka, that of Islam in Pakistan and that of Christianity in England, our
Constitution does not give a special status to any religion.
● The Constitution provides to all individuals and communities freedom to profess,
practice and propagate any religion, or not to follow any.
● The Constitution prohibits discrimination on grounds of religion.
Explain the status of women's representation in India's
legislative bodies. What can be done to improve the situation.
1. Reservation of seats: One of the most effective ways to increase the political representation of women is to
reserve a certain percentage of seats in the parliament and state assemblies for women candidates. This will
ensure that a minimum number of women are elected to these positions.
2. Political parties' commitment: Political parties can play a significant role in increasing the political
representation of women by committing to fielding more women candidates in elections. Parties can also
reserve a certain percentage of tickets for women candidates.
3. Women's empowerment: Empowering women through education, training, and employment can help
increase their participation in politics. When women are financially independent and have access to education,
they are more likely to participate in political activities and run for office.
4. Awareness campaigns: Raising awareness about the importance of women's political representation
through campaigns and programs can help encourage more women to participate in politics. These campaigns
can also educate people about the benefits of having more women in political positions.
