INTRODUCTION

Nizam ul Mulk Tusi was a Muslim Philosopher who contributed immensely to the concept of
kingship. Tusi was a chief administrator under the Seljuq Empire and dedicated thirty years of
his life to the empire. His developments led the empire to reach its zenith. He was given the
responsibility of Khurasan in 1059-1063 and he was later appointed as the prime minister of the
Seljuq Empire. His contributions under his works and the theory of Kingship centralized the
power in the empire and it not only survived, but it flourished. It is to be noted how Tusi

Henceforth, this assignment will discuss the Nizam ul Mulk Tusi and how he rose to the stature
of Wazir and then the Grand Minister. Afterwards a discussion about the condition of the Seljuq
Empire. Then a detailed discussion will be done on how Tusi contributed to the development of
the Empire under which his work will be discussed.

EARLY LIFE SKETCH OF NIZAM UL MULK TUSSI

Khawaja Abu Ali Hassan bin Ali bin Ishaq is one of the greatest political Islamic Theorists in the
Islamic World of philosophy. He was given the title of Nizam ul Mulk by the Alp Arsalan (Ruler
of Seljuk) after he was appointed as the Minister of Seljuq Empire. His nomenclature meant the
one is the “Order of the Kingdom”. Tusi ’s father always wanted him to take up law as a subject.
Tusi ’s family were landowners of Radhkan where Tusi was born. The land of Radhkan is in the
suburb of Tus. Tusi started his education by studying the Traditions and Jurisprudence as his
father wanted him to take up law.

After getting the responsibility of Khurasan, he accompanied Alp Arslan on his travels and
campaigns. By the time the emperor was assassinated in 1073, to see had already secured the
position of sole leader. Nizam became the driving force behind the Seljuk empire and helped
shape the empire by introducing various reforms which revolved around kingship and
administration. He played formidable part in the establishment of judicial economic and
administrative structure that remained operative in Persia down to the 19th century and in the
development of socio-economic structures including security communications.
Tusi ’s influence spread to the capital of the Abbasid caliph who honored him with various
nomenclature. While he served during his office, he was showered with various kinds of
dignities and titles Alp Arslan and Malik Shah who was the titular caliph of Baghdad.

HISTORY OF SULJUQID POWER

The Seljuqs or the Seljuks were a ruling family from the Turkish tribes who invaded
southwestern Asia in the 11th century and established a vast empire. the Seljuk Turks converted
to Islam upholding Sunni Muslim ideals and recognized themselves under the Abbasid caliphate.
The Abbasid Caliph was situated in Baghdad and the Abbasid Calish designated the Seljuks as
his temporal duty. They had and empire which stretched from western China through the
Mediterranean Sea encompassing the Middle Eastern states. modern day Turkmenistan, Iraq,
Jordan, Syria, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Palestine Word part of the empire. During the
development of the empire, the gallery for Baghdad recognized the Seljuk Empire as the
legitimate power. The empire was established, and the capital was shifted from Nishapur to
Isfahan and then to Marv in 1153. The political system of the empire was known as the sultanate
in the world region and the Arabic language was used as a language of various subjects such as
law, science, theology, and military. However, under Nizam, the empire was developed to its
highest peak in his 30 years of ruling time. his book was read thoroughly by Malik Shah who
approved it and declared that it would be the guide to the constitution and law in various aspects
of state affairs.
