The teacher will discuss biography, features of biography that distinguish it from any other forms
of creative nonfiction, and the fundamental considerations in writing a biography.
A biography is a written account of a person's life, highlighting key events, experiences, and
achievements. It provides insights into their character and contributions and can be written by the
individual (autobiography) or by another author.
Exploring biographical writing
Writing a biography is a way to look into another person's life. Thus, it provides information and
insights about one's experiences, encounters, and realizations.

As a prospective writer, remember the features of a biography that distinguish it from any other
forms of creative nonfiction.
 It is mainly and perennially written by somebody to feature someone else’s life.
 It must have a definite objective, unifying idea, and logical pattern.
 Biography writing demands creative skills similar to writing a novel and also the accuracy that is
necessary for historical writing.
 Biographical writing requires much reading and investigation to cultivate relevant and accurate
information about the chosen subject.
Fundamental considerations in writing a biography
The following must be brought to mind in an attempt to come up with a biographical text.
 List names of individuals that seem interesting then carefully select the one that gets your greatest
interest.
 Note some information that you know about your subject.
 Decide what other aspects of the person's life you still want to know and what specific part of the
subject life you want to feature in your writing.
 Reflect on the following guide questions.
1. What seems to be special or interesting about my subject?
2. What sample indicates from life exhibits those qualities?
3. What turning point or definite instances and circumstances affected the person's life?
4. How did the person react to these circumstances? Did he/she overcome the experienced
difficulties?
5. Does his/her existence matter? What is it even significant or noteworthy?

Biography Writing Workshop
Instruction:
1. Group yourselves into 4 groups.
2. Each group has a biography of a famous figure.
3. The group will write a biography of it and then present it to the class.

Instruction: Read the statement below, write true if the statement is correct and false if it is not.
Write your answer in a ¼ sheet of paper.
