People have different views on the importance of studying food science
and cooking at school. While some argue that students should be
focused mainly on key subjects, I believe nutrition science play an important role on leading a healthy and independent lifestyle. On the one hand, most compulsory subjects at schools are advantageous for students ‘s future career. Academic subjects as Math, Physics, Chemistry provide the foundation for one’s science related profession. For example, logical thinking and calculating ability gained from Math can increase one’s ability to solve problem; understanding of natural phenomenon from Physics can create machines which benefit mankind; or the construction of atoms and matters contribute plenty in curing diseases which improve human’s life span. On the other hand, possessing based knowledge of food and cooking can ensure not only healthy physique but also serve as survival skills. Firstly, high numbers of students fail to gain enough nutrition in daily meals, which is unlikely to lead to health problems and poorly performing at other activities. For example, students tend to skip meals or eat insufficiently to save time, which consequently leads to their losing focus, tiring, or even collapsing during school time. Secondly, with a good understanding of food and cooking, students can live independently. Living away from families means that students should know how to take care of themselves. In conclusion, while some individuals prioritize traditional academic subjects, I believe having simple knowledge of nutrition and preparing food can create a great sense of independence and development of healthy eating habits and body.
