Information Technology

Target audience
Experienced managers, working in technology-based industries
with limited or no prior background in information technology
(IT). The target audience specifically includes managers from
Finance, Marketing, Legal, Strategy and similar departments.

Objectives
The CAS ETH AIT is designed to provide a targeted IT educa-
tion. Participants will learn how to apply selected information
technology in specific industry settings through fundamental
training in computer and data science as well as through
advanced case studies on how to apply it in practice.

Modules
1. Foundations of programming
A practical introduction to basic concepts and techniques for
information processing by developing mathematical models
for real-world tasks and solving them as projects in Python.

2. Data science
Key concepts underlying current and upcoming data techno-
logy are explained, including cryptography and digital

signatures, networking and distributed algorithms, distribu-


ted ledger technologies, as well as machine learning.

3. Computer vision
This module will cover basic theoretical knowledge on visual
recognition systems of the last two decades, mostly focusing
on the most recent advancements in deep learning and
convolutional neural networks.

4. Applied information technology


This integration module links technical understanding of
technology with business strategy based on a set of case
studies from practice. Participants will explore how new
information technologies change different aspects of a
business, and learn how to evaluate specific risks, costs,
and benefits of such technologies.

Structure and format


4 modules over 14 weeks from September to December, 2–day
blocks every other week. Block format or blended learning.
Workload is approximately 300 hours. 12 ECTS credits.

Admission requirements
A Master’s level university degree recognised by ETH Zurich
and several years of managerial experience outside of IT.
