The theme of water is both complex and crucial. Across the San Joaquin, availability of

water is dwindling, and the peril that is projected to rise with population. As a result, SJV Water

was obliged to chip in to cover water news across the valley in a move to educate and synthesize

the respective stakeholders on the current water news and trends. The organization provides its

subscribers with a variety water-related of news such as floods, drought, ground water, rivers

water banking, water markets and other developments revolving around water.

According to Lois Henry, the organization is not directly involved with the sources but

rather it is the public agencies’ mandate. She further posits that, since these agencies are required

organize public meetings and provide public documents because every water movement in the

state is moved through a taxpayer funded canal. The importance of public meetings is that it

provides a platform through the stakeholders present their views and emotions more directly as

opposed to phone calls and email notifications. The organization primarily targets the farmers,

farm managers, lawyers, and government officials. However, engaging these individuals is

troublesome. Besides hostile working environments and intensive input of financial resources to

schedule and run public meetings, some members does not acknowledge the efforts and therefore

does not show up in the meetings. Nonetheless, regardless of these constraints, public agencies

should establish new measures of combating both the present and the projected uncertainties. For

instance, it should employ social media platforms to reach out a wider public network.

Despite SJV Water being an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to keeping San

Joaquin residents updated with the water news, the process comes with a cost. For instance, to

obtain the necessary water-related documents from various stakeholders is troublesome. Hostile

working environments such as the prisons and the relevant security personnel are often reluctant

to share their information thus hampering the organization’s objectives

The process of establishing and implementing new nonprofits organizations is subject to

a number of constraints such as failure to meet the target audience and social justice. However

since the organization is well funded from various stakeholders such as membership programs,

sponsors and donations, it is anticipated that it will be able to address these challenges. There are

various platforms through which the organization can reach its target audience. SJV Water

primarily uses the social media platforms to sensitize its audience on the current news regarding

water. Additionally, the organization employs its website to provide water news to every

subscriber – this is more convenient because the target audience gets relevant information at their

doorstep.

Sufficient financial resources is key to the prosperity of SJV Water. According to Lois

Henry, there are various mechanisms of generating the required financial input – especially the

membership program. Lois Henry suggest that it is difficult to engage the local people who does

not recognize the efforts of the organization in covering the water news. In many instances such

objective individuals posit that it is more convenient to engage with their mobile gadgets to

obtain the information they need as opposed to depending on the organization’s news. As result,

the organization is forced to hire experienced local residents who possess extensive knowledge

regarding the water network in the area. However, it is very expensive to pay such individuals.

Undeniably, the public needs to remain updated with the latest water-related news; and

therefore, SJV Water ought to be lauded for their efforts. However, more resources –especially

financial input should be injected into the organization in a move to enhance its activities and

mitigate the challenges facing it. For instance, it is essential to educate the young generation that

the fight against water related calamities such as floods and drought requires team work and not

fighting it solely using mobile devices as they suggest.
