Part 1: IELTS Speaking Part I (2 pts – 10 minutes)

1. Can you introduce yourself?

2. Can you share with us some information about your hometown?
Nam Định
Well, my hometown is Nam Dinh, a coastal [ˈkoʊ.stəl] province [ˈprɑː.vɪns], in the Red
River Delta [ˈdel.tə].
You know, it is famous for its historical [hɪˈstɔːr.ɪ.kəl], cultural [ˈkʌl.tʃɚ.əl], and religious [rɪ
ˈlɪdʒ.əs], such as the ancient [ˈeɪn.ʃənt] capital of the Tran Dynasty [ˈdaɪ.nə.sti](triều đại),
where there are many old churches /ˈʧɜːʧɪz/, and where the Vieng Market is held [held] - a
unique [ juːˈniːk] market on the occasion of Lunar New Year.
Moreover, tourists visiting Nam Dinh can visit many famous place, for example, Nam
Dinh Citadel [ˈsɪt̬ .ə.del](thành), Co Le Pagoda, Tran Temple, Thinh Long Beach, Xuan
Thuy National [ˈnæʃ.ən.əl] Park…
Therefore, I love my hometown because it has a warm weather, beautiful scene [siːn], rich
history and friendly people.
3. What is your job now?

I’m working in the construction department.

Actually, I’m a big fan of listening to music in my free time, especially pop music. It is
because music helps me feel relaxed and energetic [ˌen.ɚˈdʒet̬ .ɪk] after a hard-working
day, while pop music is catchy [ˈkætʃ.i] and easy to sing along. Besides, I can improve
my English listening skills through music, so I listen to songs in English whenever I have
free time every day.

Actually, I am a big fan of reading books in my free time, especially self-help books. It is
because I want to improve myself, learn new skills, and achieve my goals. Reading self-
help books also motivates me, inspires me, and gives me practical advice. Besides,
reading books is a good habit that can benefit my health, happiness, and productivity. I
like to read books from different authors, such as Tony Robbins, Stephen Covey, Dale
Carnegie, or Napoleon Hill.
6. What is your goal when you study English?

- Well, My goal when I study English is to become fluent and confident in using the
language in different situations and contexts [ˈkɑːn.tekst](bối cảnh). It can help me apply
in my job to communicate with customers from different countries and cultures [ˈkʌl.tʃɚ].

Part 2: IELTS Speaking Part II (3 pts – 10 minutes)
Instruction: Trainers will pick out 3 of 15 topics. For each topic, learners will have 1
minute to prepare, and 2 minutes to answer.
CUE CARD 1
Describe a time of the day you like.
You should say:
- What time of day it is
- What you do at that time
- Who you are usually with
- And explain why you like it
(The evening)
Well, I’m going to talk about my favorite time of the day. It’s in the evening, from 6 pm
to 8 pm.
This is the time when the sun sets, and the sky turns into beautiful colors. It’s also the
time when I have dinner with my family or friends. Besides, the weather is cooler and
more comfortable than the daytime.
You know, at this time, I usually do some relaxing activities, such as reading my favorite
books, watching some interesting shows on TV, or listening to music. I don’t have to
worry about work or study anymore, so I just enjoy myself and have a good time.
To be honest, I’m usually with my family or friends at this time. We spend some quality
time together, having conversations, sharing stories, or making jokes [dʒoʊk].
The reason why I like this time of the day is that it makes me feel free, fun, and peaceful.
I can relieve my stress from the day, enjoy the things I love, and prepare for a good
night’s sleep.
CUE CARD 2
Describe a photograph you like.
You should say:

Who took it
And explain why you like it
Well, I’m going to talk about a photograph that I like very much. It’s a family photo of
my parents and me.
You know, In the photo, you can see us smiling and hugging each other. We are standing
in a beautiful garden with many flowers and trees. Moreover, the sun is shining, and the
sky is blue. It’s a very lovely scene.
The photo was taken last year, in the summer. We went on a vacation to a countryside
resort to celebrate our anniversary. We had a lot of fun and relaxation there.
To be honest, the photo was taken by a photographer [fəˈtɑː.ɡrə.fɚ] who is a friend of my
father. He is very professional, and he knows how to capture the best moments.
The reason why I like this photo is that it brings back many good memories for me.
Therefore, it makes me feel grateful and joyful for having such a wonderful family.

Describe a place you have recently visited.

(Đà Lạt)
Well, I’m going to talk about a place I have recently visited. It was Đà Lạt, a city in the
Central Highlands of Vietnam.
I went there with my girlfriend, as we wanted to celebrate our anniversary /ænɪˈvɜːsəri/,
and We also wanted to enjoy fresh air of the mountains.
We got there by bus, as it was the cheapest and most convenient way to travel from our
hometown. It took us 6 hours to get to Dalat. Then we took a taxi to our hotel, which was
a cozy place with a beautiful garden.
I enjoyed this trip very much, we had a lot of fun and relaxing activities in Đà Lạt, such
as visiting some famous places, for example the Valley of Love, the Flower Garden, or
the Xuan Huong Lake. We also tried some delicious local food, such as bánh căn (mini
pancakes), bánh tráng nướng (grilled rice paper), or cà phê sữa đá (iced coffee with milk).
This was one of the best trips I have ever had, as it gave me a chance to spend some
quality time with my girlfriend, to enjoy the beauty of nature of Dalat. I would love to
visit this place again in the future.

Well, I’m going to talk about a place I have recently visited. It was Hà Nội, the capital
city of Vietnam.
I went there by myself, as I wanted to have a solo trip and challenge myself with some
new experiences. I also wanted to explore the city at my own pace and according to my
own interests.
I got there by plane, as it was the easiest and fastest way to travel from my hometown to
Hà Nội. The flight was only about an hour and a half, and it was quite cheap and
comfortable. I arrived at Nội Bài International Airport, which is about 30 kilometers from
the city center. Then I took a bus to my hostel, which was a cozy and friendly place in the
Old Quarter.
I enjoyed this trip very much, as it was a fascinating / ˈfæsɪneɪtɪŋ/ experience for me. I
learned a lot about the history and culture of Hà Nội, which is one of the oldest and most
important cities in Vietnam. I visited some of the most famous museums, temples, and
monuments in Hà Nội. I also enjoyed some of the most amazing art, music, and festivals
in Hà Nội. Besides, I also tasted some of the most delicious and unique food in Hà Nội,
such as phở, bún chả, or egg coffee.
This was one of the best trips I have ever had, as it gave me a chance to discover more
about myself and about Hà Nội. I was impressed by the beauty and diversity [dɪˈvɝː.sə.t̬ i] of
this city. I would love to visit this place again in the future.
Part 3: Situation talking (5 pts – 15 minutes)
Instruction: There are 10 situations.
Trainers assign 3 situations in advance for Learners in lesson 27, then Learners can
prepare at home before the speaking test.
1. Have a conversation with a customer at the airport
You have a passenger who is going to fly to Da Nang. You are at the check-in counter to
conduct the procedure. You will tell the passenger the flight’s information: departure 2
p.m. – flight A142015 – seat B11.
Words/phrases need including:
 boarding pass
 seat
 place luggage on the scale
Example:
Check-In Officer: Good afternoon! Where are you flying to today?
Lisa: I am flying to Da Nang.
CO: May I see your passport, please?
Lisa: Yes, sure. Here you go.
CO: Can I have your ticket, please?
Lisa: Here you are.
CO: Would you like a window or an aisle [aɪl] seat?
Lisa: An aisle [aɪl] seat, please.

Lisa: Yes, one checked bag and one carry-on bag.
CO: Please place your checked bag on the scale. Well, this bag is overweight. You will

2. Ask about daily routine


You and your friend have a casual conversation. He/She asks you about your daily
routine and what you do daily.

B: I’m good, thanks. How about you?
A: I’m fine, just a bit tired from work.
B: What do you do for work?
A: I’m a teacher at a local school. I teach English to high school students.
B: Wow, that sounds interesting. Do you enjoy your job?
A: Yes, I do. I love working with kids and helping them learn new things.
B: That’s great. So, what’s your daily routine like?
A: Well, I usually wake up at 6 a.m. and get ready for work. I brush my teeth, wash my
face, and do some personal hygiene [ˈhaɪ.dʒiːn]. Then I have breakfast and leave the
house by 7 a.m.
B: How do you get to work?
A: I take the bus. It takes about 30 minutes to get to the school.
B: When do you arrive home?
A: I usually arrive home around 5 p.m. Then I relax for a bit, watch some TV or read a
book. Sometimes I call my family or friends to chat.
B: Do you cook dinner or order takeout?
A: It depends on how I feel. Sometimes I cook something simple, like rice or noodles.
Other times I order pizza or Chinese food.
B: What about household chores? Do you do them every day?
A: I usually do the laundry [ˈlɑːn.dri] on weekends, when I have more free time.
B: That sounds fun. It was nice talking to you.

3. Order food at the restaurant


You and your family go to eat out for dinner at a Vietnamese local restaurant. You will
order a full course meal with starter, main course, and dessert. Also, you will ask for
special consideration when having steaks.

C1: I’d like 2 spring rolls, please.
